Re: failed to connect to mir

That worked, it also started my "Software Sources" Icon working also.

Thanks a lot. This was weird.
Do you have any idea why this may have happened?

Thanks again. :)

Mint very slow

I have been using Mint for a couple of months now and notice that mint is a lot slower than the Linux Distribution I left. Specifically Firefox and Chromium are extremely slow to come up after I click on them. I timed Chromium at 24 seconds from the time I clicked on the icon til it was finished ope...

Re: setting up print server HELP!! [SOLVED]

So I am going to answer my own question: To setup a UBUNTU (or any linux OS) print server. This is the bare bones (pretty much) server configuration in smb.conf. The client is also Ubuntu (or any linux OS). Maybe this will help someone else. I use ssh for all my other network needs so I only setup t...

setting up print server HELP!! [SOLVED]

I have been reading for two days on how to setup a print server in Mint. Some docs say use samba, others say use cupsd, which I found was not running. Others say use the printer configurator (configure tool, I make up my own words) on both the mint server and the mint client. I decided to use the pr...

cups prints 2 copies of everything

I can't get my printer to print a single copy of the documents I create. Everything prints double pages. When using Slackware and setting up the print drivers in Firefox I can choose a driver that will print properly. Cups only shows 3 different drivers in Mint while Slackware's cups version shows a...

Cli update vs Update Manager, They're different

I almost ALWAYS do things via the CLI. So after I used the Update Manager(GUI version, ya know the shield thingy?). I went to the cli and did a "sudo apt update" to update the databases and at the end it told me: "31 packages can be upgraded. Run 'apt list --upgradable' to see them." But the GUI Upd...

how to get hwmon working with Conky

I have installed Conky with my new installation of Mint Cinnamon and can't get hwmon working in conky. I have done this: sudo sensors and got the following: atk0110-acpi-0 Adapter: ACPI interface Vcore Voltage: +1.01 V (min = +0.80 V, max = +1.80 V) 3.3V Voltage: +3.34 V (min = +2.97 V, max = +3.63 ...

Re: Is it possible to make my own menus in Cinnamon?

I should have been more specific. Although this works and I thank you for it, what I was actually wanting to do is install this menu in the "desktop right click menu" so I could right click the desktop and bring up that menu with my newly made menu contained there in. :)
Thanks again.

Is it advisable to install multiple desktop environments?

I was reading up on installing and changing desktop environments in Mint and found comments that it wasn't advisable. I found this on https://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/1079 Which is a tutorial on How to Install and Manage Multiple Desktop Environments. But at the bottom in the comments I...

Is it possible to make my own menus in Cinnamon?

I have a newly installed Cinnamon Mint. I would like to create a separate menu that can contain all my script programs. Is there any way to do that in Cinnamon? I come from Slackware using Enlightenment e-16, I really liked e-16, although it's fairly old it is extremely small footprint and easy to c...

Re: Trying to dual boot mint but grub fails

I also had to go into the computer itself and completely change the drive connections until I could get the computer to agree with Mint. I suspected you might have to switch SATA ports. I really like the ease of software installation except I have to learn where all the odd ball programs are kept. ...

Re: Trying to dual boot mint but grub fails

Well, heh, I finally screwed up my Slackware installation trying to get this installed so I decided to wipe everything and start over. But I also had to go into the computer itself and completely change the drive connections until I could get the computer to agree with Mint. I have never seen this s...

Trying to dual boot mint but grub fails

I am a 20 year Slackware user and am trying to test out mint preparing for a changs in OS's. I am trying to setup a dual boot system with Slackware on the /dev/sda drive and Mint on the /dev/sdb drive.
