Re: Installing Eclipse

Okay. I was debating between /opt and /usr/bin. So /user/bin it is. Thanks!

[SOLVED] Installing Eclipse

Quick questions: Is /bin the correct place to put an executable that I installed manually? How do I create an icon on my desktop and panel for an executable that I installed manually? TL:DR: I recently switched to Linux Mint from Windows 7. One of the things I use my 'puter for is writing plugins i...

[Solved] Create Shortcut

I'd like to be able to create a shortcut easily. How it should work is: when you right click on a folder in File Manager, one of the options would be Create Shortcut (or Create Symbolic Link to use Linux lingo) and then it would create the link right there that you can then copy wherever you want, s...

Re: [SOLVED] CD burning software?

Follow up about Xfburn. The reason it couldn't find that one MP3 file that I clicked on was because I had a special character in the file name to force it to be the first audio file to play on the CD. When I renamed the song from # First Song.mp3 to Aaa First Song.mp3 , it was able to load and burn ...

Re: [SOLVED] CD burning software?

Thank you! Xfburn worked. It even recognized multiple audio formats like MID and OGG. And the CD played back just fine on my stereo. :-) However, it did have a few problems of its own. First: There is one MP3 song that it can't see for some reason. It shows up when I click on ADD to add the songs in...

[SOLVED] CD burning software?

I've been unable to burn an audio CD on Linux. Mint came with K3b, but it requires me to first convert my MP3 music to wave format. Okay, I converted my MP3s to WAV with Audacity. But when I try to load my WAV files into K3b, it still complains that it's not in wave format. I then installed Brasero....

Re: What's your favorite native Linux game?

Minecraft, hands down (yes, I'm a big kid at heart)! It's hard for me to name other games since I launch all my games from Steam. It's been months since I had to worry about what platform they run under natively when I buy a game on Steam. And for the most part, I have no clue which games are native...

[SOLVED] Why isn't Lutris in Software Manager?

Yes, I know you can link to the PPA and install it with apt-get (which I did). But I'd trust it more and feel more comfortable if it was available from the Software Manager. I know it's no big deal, but I'm just curious...

Re: Unknown software wants to install itself on my Linux system!

Ahhh, I didn't mean to start a war over Flatpak, lol. As long as the consensus is that it's not malicious, I'll let it update and not worry about it... Here's what I have. It seems I have a lot of flatpak stuff that I didn't know I had. I recognize a couple of games that I installed a long time ago....

Unknown software wants to install itself on my Linux system!

For the past couple of days, I've been getting a box whenever I start that wants me to allow software to install. The software is org.freedesktop.Flatpak.runtime-install . I've heard of Flatpak in a round-a-bout sort of way, but I've never used it and don't know anything about it. I've been clicking...

Re: [SOLVED] Transfer Linux from one HDD to another?

Just to post some feedback from my experience... I've experimented and have done this using several different methods. The fastest and easiest, I've found, is to use a disk duplicator (you can get them from Amazon for anywhere from 20 buckazoids on up). If you're copying from a smaller disk to a lar...

Re: [SOLVED] Transfer Linux from one HDD to another?

-a does all you need... I haven't done anything yet. I'm a procrastinator :-p Based on everything everyone has said above, here's the plan: 1.) To get the boot loader, partitioning, and flags set correctly, install Linux Mint 19 on a new SSD from the same Live CD that I used originally. 2.) Boot th...

Re: [SOLVED] Transfer Linux from one HDD to another?

I'll try that, then! I had always assumed that cp -a writes the copied files in a special "archive" format rather than a true file-by-file copy.

cd /mnt/ssd
cp /* . -a -p -r -v
