Re: Chrome weird behavior - Pros advice needed
Care to mention the apps you encountered? I am using the bookmarking service Pinboard (pinboard.in), which allows adding tags and notes when saving bookmarks. I have noticed that when I bookmark a page after selecting text in that page, that text is populated in the notes field when I save the book...

Re: Chrome weird behavior - Pros advice needed
I tried it in Chrome and Firefox, and it happened for me, too. I was not aware of this behavior, but since both browsers do it, I think it must be an intentional feature. A lesson here is, be careful of your clipboard. I have encountered other apps, too, that copy text as it is selected, even if you...

Re: Emblems not Visible on Some Files - LM 21.3 Cinnamon
After further investigation, this appears not to be a Dropbox problem, so I changed the title of this thread (was: Dropbox Green Check Emblems Missing on Some Files - LM 21.3 Cinnamon). The problem affects not only the Dropbox green check emblems, but also emblems that I add myself through the right...

Emblems not Visible on Some Files - LM 21.3 Cinnamon
In Dropbox, on a fresh, clean installation of Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon, green checks do not appear on some files. When a folder is accessed, all files briefly show green check without icons/thumbnails. Then the screen (annoyingly) blinks, all the green checks disappear, and the icons/thumbnails star...

You might want to try L3afpad. It is very simple, like Windows Notepad.

Re: All Windows Managers Flawed - Solutions to any combination are welcome!
You might find the want to disable Effects when you install Cinnamon. . . . I love things snappy though...never need animations I agree with you on animations, and I am not a big fan of sound effects either. I will probably leave both turned on for a few days before shutting them off, just for fun,...

Re: All Windows Managers Flawed - Solutions to any combination are welcome!
MATE has been declining a bit in popularity and it's not getting the same development efforts / contributions as it used to. I am afraid this is probably true. I have been using MATE ever since I changed to Linux Mint from Windows about 8 years ago, but I am about to give up and switch to Cinnamon....

Re: Thunderbird 115 Update - YUCK
When trying to pickup stuff from an Outlook account this morning, it now opens what seems to be a separate browser window (is this in FF or TB?) and produces a Microsoft window informing me my browser is blocking cookies and I must to allow cookies to sign-in. Then hangs. I was having the same prob...

Re: Firefox 96 scrollbar arrows gone
I found a clue to the problem, but still no solution. I disabled the theme I was using (Black by MaDonna), and the arrows came back, but I tried several other themes, and all of them, even official Firefox themes, make the arrows disappear. The only way to see the arrows is to use System theme (the ...

Firefox 96 scrollbar arrows gone
I just upgraded to Firefox 96.0 from 95, and the stepper arrows on the scrollbar are gone. How can I get them back? In previous FF versions, Changing about:config widget.non-native-theme.gtk.scrollbar.allow-buttons to "true" made the arrows appear, but that no longer works in FF 96. I am u...

Re: Best printers compatible with Linux Mint
A word of caution about HP: Read the fine print before you buy. You might need Windows, at least for a few minutes. I recently bought an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182-M185. The instructions say that you must install the HP software to set up the printer. I said to myself, no, I am not going to do t...

Re: Video Down Loader Stopped Working [Solved]
Good news! youtube-dl is back! Yesterday (Nov 16), I tried again to update youtube-dl, and this time it worked! It updated to the 2020.11.12 version. Today (Nov 17), I tried again, and it updated to the 2020.11.17 version. It is working again to download from YouTube. I did not do anything difficult...

Re: Kernel 5.4.0.42.46~18.04.35
I too had trouble with this kernel. 1 of 2 monitors was black, delayed responses after keystrokes and mouse movements, and generally everything was slow and laggy. I rebooted with kernel 5.3.0-62, and everything is OK again. This must be something that affects only some hardware. I have 3 other comp...

Re: <SOLVED> Thunderbird - Risk of copying and using profile while continuing to use the old one
You said "info on what's new." I infer from that, that it must be looking at time stamps to determine the sequence of the changes. Is that correct? As I recall it uses UIDs and single line header comparisons. What it doesn't exchange is information about the client, its version, and certa...

Re: How to remove the XApp Status applet
smurphos, THANK YOU I had already tried that repeatedly and could not find any way to remove it, but based on your suggestion, I tried again a little bit harder, lol. With some persistence, I found the right spot, a hairline thin invisible area. Once I found the spot, I was able to remove it, and th...

<SOLVED> How to remove the XApp Status applet
Recently, I did in-place upgrade from LM 19.2 MATE to 19.3 MATE, and I have been getting the nag message to install the XApp Status applet, so I installed it. Big mistake. I was wary, so before doing it, I took a snapshot in Timeshift, believing that would enable me to roll back easily if anything w...

YES! This worked beautifully. All of my messages (a few GBs) immediately appeared in the new installation. All of my email accounts, and all configurations were there, even my folder colors. I have switched back and forth between the two a few times, and everything is syncing perfectly between the t...

<SOLVED> Thunderbird - Risk of copying and using profile while continuing to use the old one
I am using Thunderbird 68.4.1 on Linux Mint 19 MATE, with 5 Gmail accounts and 5 Earthlink accounts synced via IMAP. (I will call this "Thunderbird # 1".) I am using these extensions: Account Colors, Colored Folders, gContactSync, Manually sort folders. Also, I have a newly installed Linux...
