Re: Considerations before you install
Hello All readers of this thread. I'm really welcome fred's suggestions as they compare with my experience in many installations -- mostly. The best way for Gamers might be an extra partition /usr/local for installation. I really surprised that this Partition is not mentioned by anyone else. Most, ...

Re: Considerations before you install
Sory I've made a typo:
sudo chown -R nathan:nathan /usr/local
is better
Sorry!
And Yes
sudo chown -R bed:bed /usr/local/games
sudo chown -R bed:bed /usr/local/bin (here in bin comes most start links for games, so enabling writing is good, also)
is smarter

Re: We are happy to be back again
It seems, Clem should delegate this admin job for the Forum to someone that has experience and TIME enough to protect the forum and it's community for malicious things and spammers.
It's a worthfull job and I am sure Clem could do better things than that...
Just a thought.

Re: Mint Upload!
I would like to have the Upload Function extended. It would be nice to upload to server via ftp , sftp or scp , too. The setting have to be in good unix tradition in the $HOME-dir of the user i.e. ~/.mintupload/serversettings.xml|conf|or whatever. In the moment the config is in the deep of share, it...

Re: Linux Mint is the best!
Me too.
For the Asus G1 this is the best solution ever. I'll sure for other laptops, too.
Most notable is the genius mintupdate. This should float back to Ubuntu and Debian too.

Re: Mint Upload
For me as a rootserver user this anonymous short time space makes not very much sense.
But the idea is pretty cool.
One could extend it to upload via rightclick the own webspace...

Re: how to change gnome panel background?
I had the same problem, panels right and left looked awkful. So I simply chossed a already installed theme : aurora and got another wallpaper while I am in that setup. So, now I am very pleased with my Desktop. I think for widescreen displays its the best solution to use two panels right an left. th...

Re: My Mint is randomly hanging :-(
Do have any network especially nfs resources mounted at your box?
If, could it be that nautilus hangs?
does ctrl-ALT-F1 work and gives you a console?

I've installed 2 times the new mint. one time beta 021 and one time the beta 008 xfce edition. both have the same failure, so I post here. I have tracked down the problem a bit.
My libgtk2.0-0 is 2.12.0-1ubuntu
I've installed kde, including kdm. It works, but my browser firefox and thunderbird and all the other stuff with gtk are not working. of course they need this lib !
Code: Select all
/usr/lib/libgdk-x11-2.0.so.0

After installation no X anymore
Hi, I|ve tried both, the Daryna Beta021 and the fresh xfce Beta008 edition, just to be sure. Ive verified the md5sums, they are ok. Live CD are working. After installation the gdm tries to start it lasts more than 3 minutes and dies I think. There is no explicit error in /var/log/Xorg.0.log. I|ve us...

@Helumt: yes it should :) I think someone had already. @clem and other wizards: I've tried LinuxMint-4.0-BETA-021.iso for my Asus G1 Laptop in Live mode now: It comes no Desktop, no visible failure notice. dmesg ok. No idea what this is. ubuntu 7.10 runs. And yes I verified the md5sum directly from ...
