Display sleeps on Java-application-start with USB-C

Hi all, I'm running Mint on a Dell laptop, with two 27" Dell displays. Because the laptop itself does not have the required (display) ports, I'm using a docker connected through USB-C. Every time I start a Java application, there is a chance one of the displays turn off. I connected one of the ...

Applications keep disappearing from my panel

Hi all, I have two displays, with different applications for quick launch (don't know the terminology). I like to keep all applications on their own display as much as possible... Son my first display I use for Thunderbird, Teams, Files, Terminal, etc. My second display I use for IntelliJ, Sound set...

[SOLVED] Text Editors freeze with files with long rows

I'm working a lot with json-data, so I often have files with only 1 row of data, usually a few hundred kB. I've tried with xed and gedit, but they both give the same result. It is possible to edit or search, but everything is extremely slow. If I edit the file and add linebreaks to the data the prob...

Re: Sound card(s) not working, only Dummy Output available (Mint 19)

I switched back to the original video card and the sound works again. So it really was a conflict between the onboard sound and the geforce video card. @bytrip; I didn't succeed with getting the 2nd display to work using the nvidia drivers, but I also didn't spend too much time, because it did not f...

Re: Sound card(s) not working, only Dummy Output available (Mint 19)

@MrEen; I already tried; one of my displays didn't work any more, but still no audio, also not after switching back.

Re: Sound card(s) not working, only Dummy Output available (Mint 19)

Upgrading alsa didn't help... In the Driver Manager part there's only a choice between the nvidia driver (for the GeForce) and the open source variant (xserver-xorg-video-nouveau). The GeForce card I added myself (because the other card had a weird connector, which I couldn't use for my displays). M...

Re: Sound card(s) not working, only Dummy Output available (Mint 19)

The reboot with and without audio enabled also did nothing. Updating the BIOS does not look very simple, I'll check later when I have some time to spare.

But thanks for your help so far!

Re: Sound card(s) not working, only Dummy Output available (Mint 19)

Yes, but every time they did not work, I reverted them. (Last try was; options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 probe_mask=8) I didn't find any ALC-codec in the BIOS. In the audio-category there is only an enable/disable switch (which is enabled :) ). Any idea where it can be in a dell BIOS (something lik...

Re: Sound card(s) not working, only Dummy Output available (Mint 19)

Hi MrEen, I tried all steps (first one I already tried before posting), but no luck yet. dmesg; [ 3.325331] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1b.0: no codecs initialized [ 3.377706] snd_ice1724 0000:04:02.0: No matching model found for ID 0x30315441 [ 3.379139] snd_ice1724 0000:04:02.0: Invalid EEPROM (size = 1...

[SOLVED] Sound card(s) not working, only Dummy Output available (Mint 19)

After switching to a different computer, I can't get get the on-board sound card to work... I'm searching for several hours now and every site has it's own solution, but they don't seem to work. I also have another sound card (Maya 44 MKII), but it also doesn't seem to work. But I'm actually hoping ...

Mint 18 does not start anymore

After a full day of installing and configuring, my system went down (looked like a small power failure). But the system now hangs after a few seconds of loading on the Mint logo, and never continues to the login screen. I can make it to the Recovery Menu, and I tried a few options (clean, dpkg, fsck...
