Re: Coffee Machines

We were in Walmart the other day and saw a slow-cooker with wi-fi connectivity. Apparently you can login to it remotely with an app on your phone. I presume to turn it on or off and/or adjust temperature.

Re: MATE... why the caps?

Xfce's developers changed its capitalization once they determined it didn't stand for anything. From Wikipedia: Olivier Fourdan started the project in 1996 as a Linux version of the Common Desktop Environment (CDE),[6][7] a Unix desktop environment that was initially proprietary and later released a...

Re: Cinnamon 3.2 changes?

If I go into Settings/Background, folders are visible, but none of the images: https://i.imgur.com/FNVN9kIt.png Other than that, the Cinnamon panel (bottom) appears to be slightly larger by default. I also read that the Cinnamon menu layout was supposed to be changed, but that must've been scrapped ...

It's already at the latest version due to the Dirty Cow issue.

DVD not mounting

First major annoyance I've run into with this setup. Installed LMDE 2 Cinnamon 64 about a month ago. At first, it would automatically mount DVD's when I put them in or if they were already there on reboot. About a week or so ago, it stopped. They no longer appear on the desktop. If I try to click on...

Re: Outdated

I think AscLinux may have misunderstood Clem's description of LMDE: LMDE is however slightly faster than Linux Mint and it runs newer packages. Life on the LMDE side can be exciting. There are no point releases in LMDE 2, except for bug fixes and security fixes base packages stay the same, but Mint ...

There's also Vivaldi, a new browser started by the co-founder of Opera, and PaleMoon, a fork of Firefox.

Re: Netflix on 32bit Mint Mate

There is a trick you need to do first. In Firefox, click on the menu, then go to Preferences, then Content, and check Play DRM Content. That enables the Widevine Decryption Module.

Re: Dirty cow Exploit patches

Honestly, LMDE 2 needs a fresh ISO more than 17.x! I did a fresh install the other day and the ISO that's available is still the original one from March of 2015. Needless to say it took awhile to update once I was finished!

Re: <Solved> Dirty COW bug kernel fix for Rosa?

Since Mint now tracks the Ununtu LTS releases, why is there not a Mint 17.5 to match Ubuntu 14.04.5? That would contain the 4.4.x kernel by default.

Re: 4.4 kernel on Mint 17?

I was already running 4.4 and it worked great with 17.3 MATE. That's what Ubuntu 14.04 (17.3's base) is using as default since August.

About the time a KDE version gets rock solid stable is the time their devs abandon it and start over with a new version!
