Nemo does not work with USB drives, crashing with no error

Hello, with the announcement of LM 19.1 I hope this bug that existed for ages could get fixed. Connect to USB drives (2.0), copy files from one disk to another 5-10 times, at some point NEMO hangs and crashes. I have to use KDE's Dolphin, never crashes. Nemo shows no error, no files generated in $HO...

It seems the known bug about FF freezing computers has become permanent and persistent even on LM, every time I launch Firefox it freezes all my machines, any type. I can't type, the mouse cursor freezes, I had to hard boo...

Re: Mouse + keyboard freezes in new install of Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia

I did check the driver manager. When I go there I see nvidia-340 marked as "recommended", but I tried that and caused Linux to boot to a black screen. I had to reinstall it and now kept the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau option which works (but may be related to the mouse freezes). I could try switchin...

Re: Screen goes black

Move the mouse on my sleeping computer and the screen lights up for a split-second and then it goes black. Neither mousing nor keyboarding has any effect. Turn the monitor off and then back on and the computer wakes up and the screen comes to life. This only started a couple of days ago. I'm going ...

Latest Nvidia breaks Cinnamon !

Hello, the most recent updates have broken my Cinnamon causing it to crash :!: . The most likely cause is the Nvidia graphics driver. The problem is Cinnamon launches only in crash mode, so you cannot start any program. I however managed to press Alt+F2, this allowed me to run the Driver manager by ...

Re: Whatsapp update - will it come via MintUpdate?

From the looks of it, the dev created a Flatpak: https://github.com/Enrico204/Whatsapp-Desktop/commit/30972357663b9c0add63136434991fb2555d83ef That's promising, and would be ideal for an app like this. Don't know when, if and how that Flatpak will become available; you'll have to find tha...

Re: Whatsapp update - will it come via MintUpdate?

MintBean wrote:If you installed via software manager, or using a PPA, or using 'apt-get install' it will update via the update manager; otherwise it won't.
Hello, I installed it from the Software Manager, so I would expect it to be updated. Should I wait a bit longer for a release?

Thanks,
Rich

Whatsapp update - will it come via MintUpdate?

Hello,

when I launch Whatsapp it tells me there is a new version, when I click on the link I have no idea what to do with it.

Will it be updated via MintUpdate?

Thanks

Re: Please Help, Need Help With Java. Jar Files Not Opening

I know this may not help a lot, I had the same problem with 18.2 fresh install. My java application I use didn't work, went to a lot of trouble trying to install it correctly, googled a lot with a lot of pointless solutions not working. I ended up installing 18.1 (the ISO may still be around to down...

Re: Programming in C(Help)

You can also locate your file:

cd
(now you should be in your $HOME directory)

Code: Select all

find . -name first.c
# Or
find . -name first.c -exec ls -l {} \;
This will show you exactly where your file is.

Re: Kids can't use computers

An old article, I've read it a long time ago, but still can trigger some responses. The main things that strike me is that if "kids know more than adults about computers than adults", then why are there any IT teachers still around? The other thing is that it touches a pretty much common conception ...

Firefox 57 just not good enough (impressions)

Hello, does anyone have a feeling the newest FF version is just not working in too many cases? Half of Youtube videos cannot be viewed without this message "there is a problem with HTML5" content. The same exact URL's work in Chrome. Mozillla has screwed up and all the solutions you will see is : re...

LM 18.3 - I can no longer mount my Google Drive

Hello, I've just upgraded to 18.3 and it's got some nice features. I tried the Google Drive mapping and it worked for a few days. Restart, shutdown, mapping worked well. Now I cannot mount my Google Drive in Nemo, it says it cannot authenticate. I have not changed my google password, I deleted and r...

Re: Installing Wireless USB Adapter

I think it would be best if you first checked if your USB WIFI dongle is compatible with Linux in the first place. I use a TP-LINK uSB 2.0 dongle, I just plugged it in also into a 2.0 port and I got it working. No need to install anything. Check what other people are recommending: https://forums.lin...
