Latest Linux LMDE Cinnamon windows go bezerk.
Hello, I made a fresh installation of the LM LMDE version with all the updates on an old Acer 17" laptop with a discrete Nvidia graphics card. All was well for over a week. Then when I tried to watch a movie using any video program (VLC, SMPlayer) the windows would go into a wild spin from maxi...

Re: Latest LM release Linux Mint 21.2 Victoria is rather unstable
Using an "ancient" machine doesn't explain the randomness in what is happening. It doesn't explain why my "ancient" machine was working perfectly before the upgrade to Victoria. I've had LM on this machine for over many years, so your arguments don't make any sense. I use this ma...

Latest LM release Linux Mint 21.2 Victoria is rather unstable
Hello, not sure if I am putting this in the right section, not sure if this is a desktop problem or other. I've recently done updates and upgrades on two machines and the Cinnamon desktop is rather unstable. -Aspire-7730ZG:/etc$ hostnamectl Static hostname: Aspire-7730ZG Icon name: computer-laptop C...

Re: Are all Linux upgrades necessary?
You can also try another browser. I have recently completely switched to Vivaldi, but you initially have to download the installer, which will then be nicely updated using the regular LM updater. I've completely stopped using Chrome and Firefox, they have become system hogs, especially on my Raspber...

Re: LM does not boot, running in loop after recent updates
ok, I managed to get to the bootloader and boot in recovery mode. Started network. I can start "startx", but I am on elevated permissions. Not much is mounted. I can do "sudo apt update & sudo apt upgrade", but then I still can't get past this : failed to start light display ...

LM does not boot, running in loop after recent updates
Hello,
I've just updated my LM installation and now it doesn't boot. See image. How can I boot to the safe mode? This happens so fast I barely go to this window. Maybe if I boot from the previous kernel I can my machine up.
Any suggestions?
RIchard

Re: Can't get Wine installed!
Thank you very much. I installed the wine-installer. I am trying to run Adobe Digital Editions following these suggestions: https://helpdeskgeek.com/how-to/install-adobe-digital-editions-in-ubuntu-linux/ It shows that I can download the .exe file, right click and the WINE option should show, but her...

Re: So which are the 'best' browsers for 2020 (according to you)?
Every browser has it's pros and cons. For me - none of them are fullproof. 1. On Win 10 Chrome was my main one on my work laptop until one day my corporate antivirus hit me with "trojan found!" message. It was something in the cache, although I cleared it completely I was still getting the...

Re: Monthly News – February 2020
New and updated colour themes (I mainly use dark themes), very nice, however I have been waiting ages to be able to change the colour of the Active Title bar, so I can distinguish it from the inactive one. In KDE that wasn't a problem. Can we have it please?
Thanks,
Richard
Thanks,
Richard

Nemo does not work with USB drives, crashing with no error
Hello, with the announcement of LM 19.1 I hope this bug that existed for ages could get fixed. Connect to USB drives (2.0), copy files from one disk to another 5-10 times, at some point NEMO hangs and crashes. I have to use KDE's Dolphin, never crashes. Nemo shows no error, no files generated in $HO...

Re: Mouse + keyboard freezes in new install of Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia
I did check the driver manager. When I go there I see nvidia-340 marked as "recommended", but I tried that and caused Linux to boot to a black screen. I had to reinstall it and now kept the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau option which works (but may be related to the mouse freezes). I could tr...

Re: Screen goes black
Move the mouse on my sleeping computer and the screen lights up for a split-second and then it goes black. Neither mousing nor keyboarding has any effect. Turn the monitor off and then back on and the computer wakes up and the screen comes to life. This only started a couple of days ago. I'm going ...

Latest Nvidia breaks Cinnamon !
Hello, the most recent updates have broken my Cinnamon causing it to crash :!: . The most likely cause is the Nvidia graphics driver. The problem is Cinnamon launches only in crash mode, so you cannot start any program. I however managed to press Alt+F2, this allowed me to run the Driver manager by ...

Re: Whatsapp update - will it come via MintUpdate?
From the looks of it, the dev created a Flatpak: https://github.com/Enrico204/Whatsapp-Desktop/commit/30972357663b9c0add63136434991fb2555d83ef That's promising, and would be ideal for an app like this. Don't know when, if and how that Flatpak will become available; you'll have to find tha...
