Re: A review of Mint by Dedoimedo

Yes, it seems Linux Mint has been getting worse with every new version since LM 17x. Seems, "change just for the sake of change or novelty" is not good for LM. Like they say, "do not fix what ain't broken". New versions of LM every 2 years should only contain new features, programs and hardware devi...

This kind of works but it's pretty inconvenient.
.
I think you should keep this setup because M$'s forced auto-upgrades twice per year in Win 10 will definitely bork the "correctly installed" Grub bootloader = only Win 10 will boot = requiring the manual reinstall of Grub to recover dual-boot.

Re: This computer has 0 bytes left?

The similar System Restore feature in Windows 7 has the default setting of 3℅ of free disk space for the storage of system restore points. Why can't Timeshift do the same for its system snapshots.? Should LM have included Timeshift as a preinstalled program.?

Re: Cant boot Lenovo laptop after deleting linux mint

It all sort of booted up fine, although I could not access my Lenovo bios setup by f1, I could only access it from the Linux boot menu. It was called system setup. Strange. This strangeness could be because you had set up passwords for Power-on, Hard-disk, Supervisor System BIOS or Finger-print rea...

Re: The Goal of Canonical

Was it the goal of Canonical/Ubuntu to come out with a concept similar to Apple having one's Ubuntu Desktop sync with ones Ubuntu iPhone and Ubuntu iPad and having the Ubuntu iCloud? No. Apple's business model is mainly to make money from selling sleek hardware and software that are tightly control...

Fuchsia OS vs Windows Core OS; Google vs M$

except for the current negotiations google has with the Chinese government to create a chinese google search engine that will spy on everyone in China. source There is a wise saying, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do.", which is what Google is trying to do in communist China. That is the only "leg...

Re: Fuchsia OS vs Windows Core OS; Google vs M$

If the 8th paragraph in the Fuchsia article from ZDNet is actual-factual, then I think Linux developers should stick with Linux. It does not fill me with any degree of confidence. ZDNet wrote: Although Google is thought to be looking to replace Android and Chrome OS with Fuchsia within five years, ...

Re: Fuchsia OS vs Windows Core OS; Google vs M$

I eagerly await the results of your survey. Plus: a majority opinion, if it is one, is still an opinion... not a fact. A majority opinion, by implication, also reflects the fact that Google is less evil than M$. The fact is, users have the choice of Google's Android or M$'s Windows-Phone 7/8 during...

Re: How to install Mint on a laptop keeping the recovery partition?

Can GRUB boot into the recovery partition? No, I don't think so, ie when booting a dual-boot system with Grub. Normally, installing LM alongside Windows on an internal HDD/SSD will not touch or alter the Windows Recovery partition/s. When you boot into Windows, you can run the Windows Recovery Envi...

That's an opinion, and it's fine for you to have it, but not all of us share it. I, for one, do not.
Google being less evil than M$ is a majority opinion = the opinion of about 70% of world smartphone/tablet users. Similarly for desktop browser users.

Re: Fuchsia OS vs Windows Core OS; Google vs M$

My question would be, Why? Google is just as bad as Microsoft. Because Google is less evil than M$. That was why most people chose Android over Windows-Phone 7/8 and Win 10 Mobile during the early 2010s onward, even though both mobile OS were free. Imagine M$'s Windows Core OS having a market-monop...

Re: How to install Mint on a laptop keeping the recovery partition?

My question: How will Mint behave? Will I still be able to access the recovery partition (at least through grub)? . I believe the Win 10 Recovery partition can only be run from Win 10, ie not from Linux, even though Linux can access the files on the Win 10 Recovery partition. ....... https://www.ho...

Yes i''m trying to install Linux Mint 19.1 on an external hard drive. The system installs fine on the external hard drive but the boot loader always goes onto the internal drive. Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

Linux Mint does have a lot of issues which to me seem ridiculous. When I first went to Linux no-one told me I had to delete the old Kernels. That wasn't said anywhere, so when my boot partition became so full that I couldn't even delete the kernels, lacking the space to create temporary files, it p...
