Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Good evening Gentlemen,

I am delighted to report that, having identified and corrected my own typo made during the editing of

Code: Select all

/etc/imagescan/imagescan.conf
scanning and printing are now operational. I thank you all for your advice and support.

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Good evening Gentlemen, Following the the manual and the interpretation from michael-hi I have edited the file /etc/imagescan/imagescan.conf . Nevertheless, Image Scan and Simple Scan simply (no pun intended!) refuse to see the device. In the absence of any further help from the manual, I feel an ur...

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Back again after a day of contemplation and further confusion. Perusal of the manual for Image Scan V3 contains the instruction to open /etc/imagescan/imagescan.conf and edit the contents, which are: [devices] ; myscanner.udi = esci:networkscan://192.168.0.2:1865 ; myscanner.vendor = Epson ; myscann...

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Thank you, michael-hi for your perceptive observation. As always, the on-looker sees most. I was about to post to kyphi the contents of the plug-in that most-closely matched iscan-network-nt_1.1.1-1_amd64.deb . Now I'm confused, but I will peruse the manual for Image Scan V3 and endeavour to escape ...

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

I omitted to add to the previous post that, with the additional lines inserted as surmised,

Code: Select all

sudo nano /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf
results in a blank, new file. There is nothing about 'scsi' or 'usb', so I can't add 'net' or the IP address.

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Thank you, brian_p for what would be a nice solution, but you underestimate my ignorance and timidity. I wouldn't know where to start or how to proceed from the welter of prose on your link. I'm afraid, kyphi , that I have come unstuck. I don't think I understand your instruction Observing the alpha...

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Hello, again, kyphi , Thank you for your further advice. It highlights my woeful ignorance of the underlying 'nuts-and-bolts' of Linux. First off, I looked for Nano in the menu. I appear only to have Gedit. However, the Software Manager indicates that Nano is already installed.....but where? The sea...

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Thank you kyphi . Your reply was exactly the uncomplicated explanation and advice I hoped for. Unfortunately we are not 'out of the wood' yet. The 'add printer' process was successfully navigated, and the printer/scanner is connected to my network. However, neither Image Scan (Epson) nor Simple Scan...

SOLVED: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer

Hello, Not so much 'new' as tentative, and octogenarian! I am running Linux Mint 18 Sarah on an Intel Pentium Gold G5400 processor. My old HP all-in-one USB printer died after long service and an Epson XP-6105 all-in-one wifi has been bought to replace it. This model does not appear in the options f...

Re: Mint 18.3 Cinnamon not recognising monitor [SOLVED]

Hello robim , My other topic has produced results far beyond the basic remit. I have installed the most up-to-date kernel, via sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04 to match my new PC. The PC now recognises the monitor and the printer has regained f...

Re: Not using latest kernel [SOLVED]

Hello again gm10,
I have taken your advice and obtained the latest kernel. The result was quite staggering. The PC now recognises the monitor, wifi is working, and the printer has its full functions. Thank you for sage advice. That is two threads to be marked [solved]!

Re: Not using latest kernel

Hello gm10 , I have other issues which I hoped would be rectified by addressing the kernel question. I am, however, not keen to move on to the 'modern' version which, judging by the number of references to problems with Mint 19 on this forum, leaves a lot to be desired. Also, I have a disk for Mint ...

Mint 18.3 Cinnamon not recognising monitor [SOLVED]

Hello, I have acquired a new PC and installed Mint 18 Cinnamon from the cover disk of Linux Format 214. The kernel is 4.4.0-138 generic. The graphics are handled by Intel Corporation Device 3e90 (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) and the monitor is AOC E2270SWHN of 1920x1080 (16:9). The Display applicati...

Re: Not using latest kernel

Hello, Thanks for editing my post. I wasn't sure which way to jump! Back to the problem: sudo update-grub produces: Generating grub configuration file ... Warning: Setting GRUB_TIMEOUT to a non-zero value when GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT is set is no longer supported. Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz-4.4.0-...

Not using latest kernel [SOLVED]

This is my first posting so I hope it is not considered disrespectful to tag onto this topic. I realise that the OP query involves additional software, Grub Customiser, which I don't have. However, the problem is otherwise the same. I have acquired a new PC and installed Mint 18 Cinnamon from the co...

Re: Amalgamating .thunderbird files - How?

Thank you Minterator and, particularly, Cosmo for explaining the process and setting me on the right track. I will advise the outcome when I get back on the case, next weekend.

Thanks, again,

Re: Amalgamating .thunderbird files - How?

What type has the e-mail account? POP3 or IMAP?
Unfortunately, she has a single POP3 account.
create a "new" profile that points to the old/existing profile directory.
Thanks; that is exactly the info I need, but how is the 'pointing' accomplished?

Amalgamating .thunderbird files - How?

A friend, now running Mint 18 Mate-32bit, required a new hard drive, so I downloaded her .thunderbird folder to a flashdrive. The updated PC was put back into use a week ago, but I can't get to it until the weekend. She is using the repaired PC, which has created a new .thunderbird file. My question...
