Re: Unable to 'Save' or 'Save as'
Hello & Goodbye, In the light of the earlier answers I find I have a 'better' PC than I had believed. It seems logical to me, therefore, to 'abandon' Mint Mate 18 and follow the original recommendation to install Mint 21. In advance of that I shall pose a different question when I have pondered ...

Re: Unable to 'Save' or 'Save as'
Hello again,
This is the message that arises when I try to save new or edited documents in 'Calc' or 'Writer':
For the record, this message didn't arise when I loaded Writer from the Terminal, as your suggestion.

Hello again, I have inserted your instruction in the terminal and come up with vast quantities of data, thus: coachman@coachman-PC-2321 ~ $ inxi -Fxxxmprz System: Host: coachman-PC-2321 Kernel: 4.15.0-38-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.4.0) Desktop: Cinnamon 3.0.7 (Gtk 3.18.9-1ubuntu3) dm: mdm Distro:...

Re: Unable to 'Save' or 'Save as'
Hello Spamegg, Thank you for replying to my query. Unfortunately we are off to a bad start. Much as I would like to have the latest version of the OS, I understand it is not available for 32bit systems; 18 was the last which can be mounted on my hand-me-down PC. Please share your system info by goin...

Unable to 'Save' or 'Save as'
Hello,
I have lost the facility to save either new, or altered, documents in any of the Libre Office modules. I am running Mint 18 Mate on a Novatec PC 2321. Any guidance to resolve this problem would be welcome.
Thanks in anticipation,
Derek.

Re: Mozilla reluctant to start at login
Hello again, Thanks to advice from karlchen and ajgreeny Mozilla's offspring are now behaving 'normally'. For those who follow and suffer similar irritations, there is a straightforward rectification, as follows: In the main menu, select 'Preferences', then 'Startup applications' This brings up a li...

Re: Mozilla reluctant to start at login
Hello karlchen I thank you for your response. Pardon my ignorance, but I can't find any means of adjusting the start delay of Firefox or Thunderbird via Preferences in their drop-down menus. I am not proficient in Linux, which is why I originally posted this question as 'Mozilla's mystery malady' in...

[SOLVED] Mozilla reluctant to start at login
Hello, I'm using Mint 18 Sarah with Cinnamon 3.0.7. For a month or more now, both Firefox and Thunderbird have occasionally failed to start after a fresh login. Going back into the 'close down' window and selecting 'restart' usually brings the two programs to life. Unfortunately, the failure to enab...

Mozilla's mysterious malady (MOVED TO SOFTWARE)
Hello, I'm not entirely 'newbie', more inept geriatric, but bear with me, please. I'm using Mint 18 Sarah with Cinnamon 3.0.7. For two or three weeks now both Firefox and Thunderbird have occasionally failed to start after a fresh login. Going back into the 'close down' window and selecting 'restart...

Re: Alsamixer and Audacity not recognising input from Newmark usb turntable
Thank you norm.h and decrepit for your thoughts. Every little helps . Big progress, MrEen ! Following your advice to raise the PCM(?) in AlsaMixer I now have the sort of signal trace I was expecting; lots of substantial peaks and troughs. However, still no sound from the speakers either when monitor...

Re: Alsamixer and Audacity not recognising input from Newmark usb turntable
Hello again, MrEen, I have to confess that the selections on Pulse Audio were counter-intuitive to me. Something 'greyed-out' usually means its not available, but I now know better. Anyway, I now see a feeble recording profile when Audacity is set to record, but not the range of peaks and troughs th...

Update to my post above.
Apologies. The screenshots aren't appearing, although they are on my desktop. Should they have been loaded directly to the Forum server? I can't find any advice on the procedure but I will keep looking, and post a separate question.
Derek.

Re: Alsamixer and Audacity not recognising input from Newmark usb turntable turntable
Hello gentlemen, I have ensured that the turntable, which is designed to work through a PC, is plugged into a USB2 socket, not USB3. A peculiar result(?) is that the volume control is showing input at two locations, 'Built-in audio analogue stereo' and 'PCM2900 audio codec analogue stereo'. The latt...

Re: Alsamixer and Audacity not recognising input from Newmark usb turntable turntable
Hello again, MrEen, I have worked through your suggestions, and I see activity in the monitor region of Audacity, but no identifiable sound coming out of the speakers, only something resembling a very muffled beat. This latter responds to switching on and off in Audacity, or the speakers, which have...

Re: Alsamixer and Audacity not recognising input from Newmark usb turntable turntable
Hello MrEem, rerunning /home/myusername/.config/pulse informs me that it is a directory, which is an improvement on previously. However, pulseaudio -k produces nothing. Equally, enabling 'loopback' in AlsaMixer has no effect. Moving on to your suggestions, pacmd list-cards produces: coachman@coachma...

Alsamixer and Audacity not recognising input from Newmark usb turntable [SOLVED]
I'm not so much a 'newbie' as an 'elderly inept', but this seems the right place, so please bear with me. My problem is that the 'sound' from a record on the turntable does not reach the speakers. The speakers are operational when playing youtube videos, and the volume can be adjusted either from th...

Re: Matching drivers to an Epson XP-6105 scanner/printer
Good evening Gentlemen, Following the the manual and the interpretation from michael-hi I have edited the file /etc/imagescan/imagescan.conf . Nevertheless, Image Scan and Simple Scan simply (no pun intended!) refuse to see the device. In the absence of any further help from the manual, I feel an ur...
