Re: Newbie Trying To Install USB Wireless Adapter

When you are in the BIOS look for "boot" boot order, something like that - it may be tricky to find so walk through all the menus - you are looking for boot order - It will be there. Then look for UEFI - that is secure boot. You want Legacy boot - hopefully that is a choice. Usually you can use the...

RESOLVED: Newbie Trying To Install USB Wireless Adapter

This adapter I bought on the bay cheap, I believe the machine is at least seeing its presence. When I do lsusb it does show up as a Realtek device: soundchaser@SC59 ~ $ sudo lsusb Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0bda:0811 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root ...

Easy Friendly SWF Editor

I recently realized that LibreOffice Impress will let me create a slide show and export it as a swf file. I used to have Swish on my Windows machine, but now I no longer have that option. All I need to do is add an mp3 soundtrack to my slideshow. I don't really care if it's swf or not, just that swf...

Re: Flash Drive For A Win7 System Drive Clone?

Thanks. After some reading it looks to me like it's a choice between Clonezilla and Trinity Rescue Kit. Both read as if they are very user friendly, but I'm going to start with Clonezilla and see how far I get. I have it downloaded and unzipped to my bootable 256GB flash stick. I'll start messing ar...

Re: Flash Drive For A Win7 System Drive Clone?

I've been reading a little bit about these, found this from a simple google search. Anybody like anything on this "top 10" list? The Trinity Rescue Kit reads like it might be a good one to try. I didn't get much from any "clonezilla" searches, and it doesn't pop up in my Software Manager when I sear...

Flash Drive For A Win7 System Drive Clone?

My home office machine has been on Mint for about 9 months or so. But my basement music studio computer is running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. Someone I work with suggested that I could use something called Clonezilla to make a restorable image of my Windows 7 c drive, as a way to backup my Win 7 c drive ...

Re: Mint Code Editor for Personal Web Site

Bluefish is very similar, with a few more options for tagging, etc..... and I think it has an FTP connectivity built in for uploading changes. It only took me about 40 minutes to establish the same feel and workflow that I had going in Geany. I'm going to use both for a few days, side by side, with ...

Re: Mint Code Editor for Personal Web Site

Really like the Geany IDE, it seems to resemble a kind of self-taught workflow that I got used to a few years ago when I started the personal web site. Nice to have what amounts to a near real time wysiwiyg when I run it side by side with the browser, so I can see results immediately. Keeping the di...

When I click to download the Google Web Designer (Beta) it looks like it is intended only for 64 bit systems.

Please select your download package
64 bit .deb (For Debian/Ubuntu)
64 bit .rpm (For Fedora/openSUSE)

Re: Mint Code Editor for Personal Web Site

I like Geany because the sidebar displays the "classes" in my .css files, making it easy to jump to the right section quickly - as you can see in the screenshot. Ahhhh! That would be nice. Many times I have hit the Find button just to jump to a particular place in the style sheet. The class listing...

Because of the way it looks? or is there more to it? Is it more friendly in some way? One of the "10 best...." articles I read mentioned it by name.

Re: Mint Code Editor for Personal Web Site

I cut out the results that I didn't think would matter......you got the gist of it, that my old machine is under powered. But it's just slow, otherwise it does get the job done, especially if I don't try to multi task. I'll scrape up some $$$ for newer hardware in the near future. I will end up repl...

Re: Mint Code Editor for Personal Web Site

There are many posts in this forum on this topic already, if you search for them. Did, seems I could not conjure the correct search terms to get pertinent results. Got a lot of threads back with people describing their web development jobs and web development obstacles. Anything pertinent seemed to...

Re: Mint Code Editor for Personal Web Site

It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run " inxi -Fxzd " from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information. There are many posts in this forum on this topic already, if you search for them. 1.) Most we...

Mint Code Editor for Personal Web Site

I have been doing ASP and C# / SQL at work for several years, but mostly emphasizing desktop apps for internal operations. But my personal web site was done a long time ago using simple html and some very basic javascript. It's done, I've cleaned house and I have a fresh slate to work with on my hos...

Re: How Come I Don't Have Any Questions?

When I jumped to Linux Mint for good I expected a long learning process and many small hurdles. What I got instead was a well configured OS that worked so well (for me) that I ended up upgrading my equipment. Now it just sits there, runs 24/7 and only requires a weekly backup. The worst problem I h...

Re: How Come I Don't Have Any Questions?

Yeah, I'm a new user to Linux, myself, and I've found it to be quite polished and easy to use. I'm quite pleased with it. I had some trouble establishing shares between my Linux and Windows machines, but that was mostly due to following some old advice (and some new bad advice) and attempting to us...

Re: How Come I Don't Have Any Questions?

But, if you would, to what do you attribute this? Partly my desire to make the switch, but mostly to the "state of the art" that has been achieved with Linux to date, especially with Mint. The other major factor is the excellent help and responses I got on this forum and on another forum to help me...
