Re: LibraOffice Writer - how the heck to get it to do what I want (text boxes)?

Thank you very much WiltshireJon - a nice, quick, clear answer, and it worked perfectly. Now I know. Moem - Thanks for risking a reply! I discovered the Frame soon after posting my quezzie and I've been using those, and yes, adding tables into them, so they're better than text boxes for what I am do...

SOLVED - LibraOffice Writer - how the heck to get it to do what I want (text boxes)?

Hello and Happy Holidays I am tearing my hair out - what I thought would be a quick job is turning into a time-waster! Word was user-friendly - I could create text boxes, they would automatically adhere to the page etc. With Linux, I create a text box and then it disappears! What the heck?! I want t...

How do I connect wirelessly to another's router?

Hello Hello. I'm a newbie. I apologise if I've posted in the wrong place. I have Linux Mint Cinnamon 64, using a HP laptop. I connect via ethernet cable at home, but when I've tried using my laptop elsewhere, such as the local library, I can't connect to their WiFi automatically. When I click on the...

Re: How to record a video to send via Youtube or Google Drive?

It's worked! All of it! Thank you very much indeed for your help, phd21. (I didn't see the videos initially as I was looking in Home but in the Videos folder under that).

Thank you again!
All the best to you.

Re: How to record a video to send via Youtube or Google Drive?

Hello again phd21

Thanks for this. I have managed to install Guvcview all okay.

I can't see a way to save after I've captured video and then stopped it. At the bottom of the Guvcview screen it says saving etc., but when I go to that file I don't see anything.

Help again please?

Thank you!

Re: How to record a video to send via Youtube or Google Drive?

Hello again phd21 OK, sorry. It was the paragraph that started off about 3rd party installations that threw me. I just had a go at putting in the first line of the three into the terminal, and then hit return, and it asked me if I was sure I wanted to continue. Am I supposed to paste the first line,...

SOLVED: How to record a video to send via Youtube or Google Drive?

Hello I'm about to start a course in British Sign Language, and I'll be having to video myself and forward the recording on to my tutors. They say it like this: "In order for you to prepare for the course, can you please set up a Youtube account or Google Drive account, so you can share links to vid...

Re: DVD films now don't work that did previously with Windows

Hi phd21 Thanks for joining us. :) Sorry, I should have made that clear - these are proper film DVD's that you buy in shops, not homemade ones. Here's what you asked for (thank you!): System: Host: tabitha-HP-G62-Notebook-PC Kernel: 4.4.0-21-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.3.1) Desktop: Cinnamon 3.0.6...

Re: DVD films now don't work that did previously with Windows

Unfortunately no joy there either. It just opens a small box that doesn't do anything when I press the play button. When I try to open the DVD with something, Gnome doesn't appear as an option. 'Tis all very strange to me. :?

Re: DVD films now don't work that did previously with Windows

I don't seem to have a choice. The only other things I've got under Sound and Video are Videos, Brasero and Banshee. Videos can't read this particular DVD, and when I tried a DVD that works okay under VLC I couldn't work out how to get it (Videos) to play that either. Brasero just seems to be a copy...

Re: DVD films now don't work that did previously with Windows

OK. I did it via the Terminal, and then tried using one of the DVD's that doesn't want to work, and unfortunately it still doesn't work. I did restart the computer too in case that was necessary. Any more ideas please? Thanks.

Re: Install Java 1.7 or later - necessary, if so how?

Sorry for my absence, and thank you for your replies. I discovered that my tablet, which usually works with NGTS using a different WiFi, doesn't work with my home WiFi. So I am wondering if it's more to do with the internet connection at home. It's very odd though because the internet is perfect for...

Thanks Pjotr. I did install these Multimedia Codecs in the first place, so are you saying I should do the second part, via the Terminal? Thanks

DVD films now don't work that did previously with Windows

Hi I'm using Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon 64-bit When I had Windows all I had to do was insert the DVD into my laptop and everything would happen automatically. Since changing to Linux Mint and using VLC Media Player, some of the DVD's play normally, but many do not. For those that work well, after insert...

Install Java 1.7 or later - necessary, if so how?

I want to download NGTS Lite, a text relay service (telephone) for Deaf people. It requires that I have Java 1.7 or later installed. I don't think this is already installed on my computer? I just put on Linux Mint 64 yesterday (Sarah version). I have no clue how to use Linux yet. Please help? Thank ...
