Re: Bluray burner, external, compatible with Linux Mint
Thanks to all. As i said in my original mail, "I have tried a Buffalo BDXL Blu-Ray BRXL-PT6U2VB but it is not recognised by Mint." I bought the Pioneer BDR-XD07TS BDXL that Conrad (in Germany) said would work under Linux, although the assistant there said that as I used Linux I would know ...

Bluray burner, external, compatible with Linux Mint [SOLVED]
I want to use an external bluray burner to backup two machines running Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon (and also under Windows). I have looked in the forums for tips on bluray burners that will work under Linux, but without success. I have tried a Buffalo BDXL Blu-Ray BRXL-PT6U2VB but it is not recognised ...

opera browser - installing in software manager
hi, i couldn't find the opera browser in the software manager.
why is there no link to it there?
i was able to install it via opera.com, but it would be simpler for newbie users if it were available in the software manager.
thanks to all at mint for the help you give us!

Re: Mint for Dell Inspiron 8200 with 256MB system memory?
Many thanks to Damien and Colson for very helpful replies! I've looked at Antix, I'm sure it's fine but I shall miss Mint ... Maybe I shall install 1GB ram (after the lockdown) so thanks a lot to Damien for the specs. As for the keyboard, Colson, I am sure your advice is quite right, but I have been...

Mint for Dell Inspiron 8200 with 256MB system memory?
Hi there, The old machines have the best keyboards. I have a couple of old Thinkpads running with MInt, my favourite is the oldest, a T410, which is very nice to type with. I was now given an ancient Dell Inspiron 8200 with 30GB harddrive and 256 MB system memory, plus 32MB video memory. It runs a M...

Re: NEMO deletes without asking
Many thanks Karl for your suggestions. But neither seem to get me any further. As you suggest, I have run the command sudo sed -i '/OnlyShowIn/{s/^/#/}' /usr/share/applications/caja.desktop ...but it makes no difference. I have also searched in the /usr/share/applications There two files called &quo...

Re: NEMO deletes without asking
Thank you, gm and Karl ! So it's not a bug, it's a feature, as they say, a feature designed to make you pay more attention to every keystroke you make. (And off topic: by the way, Karl, I grew up with Xtree and never used Norton) I've installed the caja file manager and it does what I want it to, gr...

NEMO deletes without asking
My filemanager (Nemo 3.6.5 on Cinnamon 18.3) now deletes files and directories without asking, even though I have the setting "Ask before deleting files or emptying the rubbish bin". This is a very dangerous bug: 1) I am used to emptying a huge rubbish bin without checking what is in it. I...

Re: FLAC to MP3 with ciano - doesn't work
Thanks all. We haven't discovered why Ciano doesn't work, so I won't mark it as "solved", but I now have two other programs, freac and soundconverter which fit the bill.

Re: FLAC to MP3 with ciano - doesn't work
Reply to Australia: Thanks but... ʇı ǝʌןos ʇ,usǝop ʎɹɹos I may be doing it wrong, but with VLC I seem to have to enter a destination file for each track, which is tiresome (because I have lot of music). And it seems to always want to convert my files to MP4 by default. Ciano was good because it is a...

FLAC to MP3 with ciano - doesn't work
CIANO seems to be an easy, convenient tool for converting audio files but it freezes when I try to convert FLAC to MP3. It works converting to OGG and AAC. I have read somewhere about codecs and LAME and gstreamer add-ons but all the pages I have looked up are a bit to techy for someone like me. Is ...

Update Manager: Apply levels 3 and 4 ("large" and "sensitive" impact levels)?
As a fairly ignorant Linux user, I have set the Update Manager to select updates at levels 1 and 2 ("minimal" and "normal" impact on the system). The update manage now suggests that I also apply some updates at the large and sensitive levels (levels 4 and 5), namely linux-libc-de...

Re: Firefox - Deleting cookies when closing the program
If you have set Firefox to save your browsing session, i.e. told FF in the Preferences to start up with "show my windows and tabs from last time", then FF will not delete the cookies/data from those sites because they are part of your saved browsing session. Thanks! It looks as if that wa...

Great, thanks. I have installed mupdf and using the command line I can open the oxps. Where is it or how can I access it without going to hte command ...
