Well, that's good news! Does this mean the issue is solved? Then please mark it as such Is it not for the instigator of the post to say if they believe that their problem is solved. Take a deep breath and read it again. She was asking you if it was solved and asking you to mark it solved if it was....

Re: Virtualbox 5.1 upgrade SOLVED

I did the 5.1.x to 5.2.x upgrade yesterday on my Debian Stretch host. I did it from the stretch backports repo via apt-get install. It returned 1 pkg to be removed (5.1) and one to be installed (5.2). I let it do its thing and the install came out fine. I did have to dl and install the 5.2 extension...

Re: F2 Password not accepted

Are you trying to use your mint password to enter your bios to change the boot order? I'm assuming you must be, because you wouldn't be able to change the bios password without getting into the bios. You need to figure out the bios password or reset the bios settings using the jumper on the MB.

Re: Lost all files - profile reset

Your files should still be in /home/username

You should be able to log out of your current session and then log in to your original user account.

Your password doesn't echo in terminal. Just type it in and hit enter.

Remove hibernate option from shutdown menu

I've been digging around (searching forums, google, reading tea leaves) trying to find a way to remove the "hibernate" option from the cinnamon shut down menu on my desktop. Pjotr had a simple way to do it for Mint described in one of his excellent Easy Linux Tips Project pages, but of course Mint b...

Re: LM 18.1 Cinnamon: Hard drive running hot

The cpu is on the left side about midway between the front and back, but yes, the fan is at the left rear corner. Perhaps your fan output is restricted by lint and the cpu is not being adequately cooled. This video shows how to disassemble the notebook and clean the fan. Around the 2 minute mark you...

Re: LM 18.1 Cinnamon: Hard drive running hot

Look at this youtube video for replacing the HDD on that model. You will see that the HDD is on the right side, not the left. The CPU is on the left side.

Re: Linux mint 18 randomly crashing with various errors

Anyway, I had xfce installed. I'll try to use that for a while and see how things go. If not, I'm reinstalling mint. Did you install cinnamon on top of xfce or as a fresh install? I've read several threads where that has caused problems. It's always recommended to install new desktop environments w...

If you're trying to get it to the far left side of the menu in cinnamon, right click the launcher and select add to favorites.

Re: Mint and google earth

I couldn't remember how I installed it. I thought I did it from the terminal with apt-get and I have a launcher in the menu. Perhaps I did it through software manager though.
As you posted, the command to start it from the terminal is google-earth.

If you put the task bar at the bottom of the screen, the close button is right above the task bar. You barely have to move the mouse.
