Re: Davinci Resolve failure to launch. [SOLVED]

You've got on board video like me? You need a decent GPU to run Davinci Resolve. You're wasting your time trying to install it.

Re: Davinci Resolve failure to launch. [SOLVED]

You likely don't have the required hardware to run Davinci. I tried and it won't run on my system for those reasons.

Re: [SOLVED] How to install Gimp 2.10.18

The last version of PS that I used was CS2 and was a few years ago. The only advantage (in my opinion) that PS has over Gimp, is the ability to edit in 64 bits per channel (Gimp works in 32-bit floating point) and it has better vector editing abilities. Aside from that, there is nothing that PS can ...

Re: How to install Gimp 2.10.18

No need to uninstall PPA version, Appimage version will run independently. It comes with some plugins, but you can copy your existing plugins and scripts from your current version. It will setup a new folder in .config called "GIMP-AppImage" simillar to your current "GIMP" folder.

Re: How to install Gimp 2.10.18

Your best bet (in my opinion) is to use the Gimp appimages as already suggested. File size is small about 160 MB for the ones with plugins, and 140 MB for the ones without. Though not necessary, I like to extract the appimage to my HDD and run it that way. It runs faster but ends up taking 436 MB of...

You should've tried it by now, no? I would recommend a Windows VM any day over wine.

Re: Foxclone - linux image backup, restore & clone

They were very minor. One issue is when I select the restore file, I have to do it twice for some reason. The other issue had to do with restoring an image with a swap partition. It wrote the swap partition, but it was listed as "Unknown". It was a quick fix with Gparted to assign it as linux-swap. ...

Re: Foxclone - linux image backup, restore & clone

Just want to say thanks for this awesome s/w. It's definitely easier to use than clonezilla. I've been using it for the past two days creating and restoring between two Linux OS's. It's worked out great with only a couple of minor issues. Very well done.

Thanks!

Re: Flatpaks slow to launch

I don't use flatpaks, I instead use AppImages. For example: Inkscape 2.0 and Blender 2.8 start in 1 second. Gimp 2.10.19 starts in 3 seconds. There are drawbacks to using flatpak, so I avoid them when possible.

PS. I don't care for Snaps either.

Re: Inkscape 1.0 is now available

Thanks for the heads up on Inkscape v1.0 appimage, I just downloaded extracted it to my HDD. The advantage in doing that is Inkscape will run faster and less writing to HDD. I pretty much do that with all my appimages.

Code: Select all

./Inkscape-4035a4f-x86_64.AppImage --appimage-extract

Re: Why flatpack apps are so huge in size

I'm not a fan of flatpaks, I prefer appimages instead. Gimp flatpak=2GB, Gimp appimage=145MB. You can extract the Gimp appimage to your HDD and it will be 453MB. The advantage to doing that is it runs faster and less writing to HDD. That's the way I run Gimp. Another problem with Gimp flatpak is it ...

Re: Ubuntu Studio Installer

Why not just install the programs you like in LM? That's what I would do instead of installing all that mess. I do a lot of video, photo and audio editing and only install programs I want to use. I tried a couple of multi-media linux distros, but 80% of the s/w was useless to me.

Re: Foobar2000 access denied

The only thing I'm missing from Foobar2000 is the ability to convert audio files between formats. Maybe Deadbeef can do that with a plugin, I don't know. I just downloaded DeadBeaf. Most of the conversion plugins don't work for some reason, but ffmpeg ones do work. It's a simple matter of editing t...

If you go the the website, you can download the binaries in an App. Here is the link to the download page. https://www.enricoros.com/opensource/fotowall/download/binaries/ I downloaded the 1st one (v1.0) and it seems to work. I don't have a need for it, but it may help you. Be sure to Right-Click on...

Re: Collage of Photos Maker

G'mic - Montage is easy enough to use and include many settings to play with. You can also create any possible effect using masks in Gimp if you prefer more control.
