Re: USB Endoscope Camera

In worst case, you can use a Windows VM. You'll just need to enable the usb that the camera uses. This is what I do for my Mobius Action Camera to go into camera settings.

Open multiple instances of Pix. Or just tab between them in full screen.

Re: KDENLive update broke the application.

You could TimeShift it back before the update, then dissable updates. A better option would be to uninstall it and use the AppImage version instead. That's what I use and I find it to be more reliable and stable. Don't go with the flatpak either. https://kdenlive.org

FYI, I just now received kernel 5.3.0-26 via Update Manager. Vbox works fine with the new kernel.

Did you try disabling Secure Boot in the BIOS? I'm running Vbox 5.2.34 and kernel 5.0.0-37 without any issues.

Re: System Reports prompt to install hardware drivers (Wireless 8260)

I got the same thing happen to me on my new Laptop, which I had already installed the wifi driver after installing LM19.3 on it. Yesterday while using the laptop, I noticed the Hardware icon in the task bar. Even though the recommended driver was the same as the one I had installed, I went ahead and...

Re: Help with Finding Best Distro & Prof. Quality Video Editing Software

Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon is my preferred distro. What you need is good S/W to do the things you want. I recommend using AppImages when ever possible as those will include dependencies needed. For Image editing I recommend Gimp: https://www.gimp.org/ Video Editing: Natron: https://natrongithub.github...

Re: why are linux image editing apps so horrible?

I used to use IrfanView all the time back in Windows too and yes it will run easily under wine. I've done that too before I knew better. Pix is an easy replacement for Irfanview and I'm quite sure other Linux Image viewer are too. The point is be more open minded, you may actually be glad as a resul...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't install DVDStyler

In that case, I'd back them up in the highest quality/resolution I can. Probably AVC mp4 as that is the most common format at this particular time. Who knows what the future will be playing, but I'm pretty sure it won't be dvd.

Re: why are linux image editing apps so horrible?

Gimp is very advanced as Image editors go. One of it's strengths is the abundance of cool scripts and plugins that help make special effects so easy to do. Like this example of a python script that paints a path in steps.

Re: FireFox so much faster than Chrome - Why?

I use Chromium and it is as fast or faster than FireFox in my testing. I rarely ever use FireFox, but just did now to test out your opinion. I don't use Chrome, but I'd have to disagree based on my test with Chromium.

Why don't you just install via the Software Manager? You'll get VirtualBox 5.2.34 and it works perfectly with LM 19.3

Re: Video to MP3

You can't beat ffmpeg (WinFF if you need a GUI) for these things. If for instance the video already has an mp3 audio stream, then you can simply just copy it out instead of re-encoding it and loosing even more quality. It's a simple matter of using the proper command (-c:a copy). All those converter...

Re: why are linux image editing apps so horrible?

I'll give credit where credit is due. I've used FastStone Viewer many times in Windows for one cool feature. The ability to batch process/re-name image files. I often used it for specific needs such as creating Image Sequences and Slide Shows. Other than that, I never used it. It does have value, ho...

Re: why are linux image editing apps so horrible?

I only use Pix as an image viewer, not as an image editor, that's what Gimp is for. For the simple example you linked to, you can easily do that with a simple image editor like Pinta. I used to use wine when I first started in Linux, but have since moved on as I don't need it and it was too flaky an...

Re: why are linux image editing apps so horrible?

I just opened Pix out of curiosity. Couldn't find settings for colors/brightness/contrast, blur, annotations/drawing. Granted I didn't dig too deep, because with my bad memory I'd have to do the digging each and every time I'd need to edit a picture.
Click the Pencil icon in the upper right........

Re: Photo Editing

Is the anything besides GIMP for editing? It wants to save pics in it's own format (not JPG, JPEG). I am a Moderator on two different forums and I cannot upload pics or edit with GIMP. If that were true, then how did I make my avatar? Gimp can export a wealth of different formats. There are also co...
