Re: Cinnamon crashes - requires restart

I had my GPU fan stop working when I switched to mint18x64 which caused my system to crash from overheating (until I installed an extra fan). Wonder if that's the same issue your having? For some reason the nvidia cards don't play well with modern mint, and are difficult to install drivers for. As a...

Re: Help! Keep Precision & Install Linux or get Mac?

After fighting with my W7 machine (since the updates you mentioned) for several months, I switched that one to mint18 in what amounted to about an hour worth of downloading, creating a live usb, and install. I mostly use my machine for the exact same tasks as you, and have been very happy with it. Y...

Re: cinnamon (mint 18) taskbar how to make it not full width.

Interesting! I've never heard of that in linux, windows or mac. Would be a nice bit of customization (I'm not sure why) though! Good luck, and I hope someone far smarter than me answers.

Re: Screen resolution change crash

please keep in mind, I'm not a tech guy for a living. I fix my car, my toaster, my torn socks, and my compy (many of which I find in the ally and give new life to). I'm just the kind of person that has faith in those who want things to work, and who are willing to put in the work to make that happen...

Re: Screen resolution change crash

I'm pretty sure you should expect glitches. I also switch a machine over to linux every couple years (actually once a year at least), only to find out that the release I switched to wasn't quite ready for the market. Just remember, that "freedom isn't free" hahaha...But in all seriousness, every tim...

gpu fan not working after upgrade to mint18

After upgrading to mint18 "cinnamon" 64, my gpu cooling fan no longer works on my nvidia gt216 (220). I had been running mint 17.1 (32bit) with no issues, but since google stopped supporting 32bit linux systems for chrome, I decided to go ahead and move to the 64 bit and upgrade to 18. I had been ru...

Re: Cannot get TV overscan compensation on a NUC PC with Intel Graphics

I have the same isue with an old westinghouse. The main problem being the tv wont recognize the vga signal, only the hdmi. Without being able to use the vga input, there is no way to shut off overscan, and no way to pad the output to compensate as far as I can tell. This is one of those crank up the...
