Re: Encrypted drive on boot - skip password on reboot?
Thanks for the suggestion, external solution not what I'm looking for. How are others dealing with remote boot with encrypted drives? Would think once you are 'in' there should be a way to reboot with a one-time no password access if specifically defined.

Encrypted drive on boot - skip password on reboot?
I often remote into a Mint laptop that has drive level encryption and asks for a boot level password on power up. If I try to reboot remotely I can't enter the password. Is there a way to reboot from command line with an option or setting that won't ask for the boot password for just that one CLI re...

Script or app to show life of SSD?
Windows 10 now has a feature that shows expected life of SSD. Is there a Linux script or app that can do the same? Or is it a gimmick?

Re: Mint 19.3 to 20 upgrade via Upgrade Manager?
^Yeah, understood. Just meant that some of the issues showing up today with 19.3 to 20 may hash out over time if update scripts or other updated packages happen to resolve any upgrade kinks. The 19.3 to 20 upgrade seems more complicated than last several major revision upgrades though. I have one la...

Re: Mint 19.3 to 20 upgrade via Upgrade Manager?
I have 4 laptops and manage family and a couple friend's laptops (about 8 more) who are not techies so prefer to avoid fresh install. And yeah I'd check this site for the best manual method. Every time it's worked fine but my 19.3 to 20 didn't quite work. Restore was fine though (I do a disk image b...

Re: Mint 19.3 to 20 upgrade via Upgrade Manager?
Thanks all. I thought I recall upgrading 18.x to 19 via Upgrade Manager but maybe it was manual as well. Guess I'll fresh install at some point.

Mint 19.3 to 20 upgrade via Upgrade Manager?
Most of my laptops are on 19.3 (Mate) and I tried to manually upgrade one to 20 that didn't go well (more steps than in past), was able to restore fine. Will we see a Mint 20 upgrade via Upgrade Manager anytime soon?

Re: Help me find <$600 laptop with these features
Would be surprising if they stray away from anything standard. Has fingerprint scanner too so will be interesting to see if existing Linux driver support. The 15" Gateway has charging USB-C but the 14" doesn't, which is odd. Wish there were a 13" version of the 15" - minus numeri...

Re: Help me find <$600 laptop with these features
Second hand thinkpad, but you won't get everything on your wish list. i5 or better - yes. 1080p - don't think so, more likely 1600x900. weight - no, might do with an x series or one of the slimline models. My T430s are 5 lbs. m.2 SSD - T430 no (msata), T440 - yes. RAM - user expandable - yes. USB C...

Re: Help me find <$600 laptop with these features
Reddit SuggestALaptop is going to give a lot more feedback. As for me, I'd avoid AMD and stick to intel with onboard graphics, no Nvidia. Go for a used laptop 2-3 years old with best specs, ram, larger ssd. Lenovo Thinkpads are generally good. Thanks, will check that Reddit group. I currently have ...

Flutter/dart apps
Is there a way to run flutter/dart apps on Mint? Wish more major applications would develop in this. Would be a great way to get top tier apps on Linux, right? That is if developers target Android/iOS/Windows/Mac apps in Flutter, Linux happens to benefits too. Especially boost Linux mobile phone app...

CHUWI hardware support and security concerns
CHUWI laptops are looking really good for the price. Backlit keyboard too uncommon for under $500. How is Mint support for these laptops and have there ever been any security concerns with these Chinese laptops? Like at the BIOS level?

Fixed: LM 19.2 Virtualbox installing as 32bit on 64bit arch
Did a fresh install of 19.2 64bit and VB6.0.14 will only allow creating 32-bit machines. When I had LM18.x on same laptop it had no issues with 64 bit VMs. Is there a VB compatibility issue with LM 19.2? Any suggestions to allow 64bit VMs?
