Re: Linux mint

I agree with all of the above. There's no distro like Mint and the forums are friendly and a good source of information. :D

Re: what mail client do you prefer

Thunderbird is very convenient and it's my go-to client on both my desk- and laptop, but I also access my email via webmail.

Re: Appears my Mint 18.3 is broken now

So far so good...knock on wood...nothing's broken yet. However, I installed 18.3 on my aging System76 laptop, which is not my primary production machine. If it breaks, I'll see if I can find a fix; if not, I'll re-install and be up and running in no time.

Re: Which do you prefer: Cinnamon or XFCE?

At one time or another, I've tried just about every desktop environment out there. My vote is for Cinnamon and, FWIW, no one does Cinnamon like Mint!

Re: Linux Mint 18.3 “Sylvia” Cinnamon – BETA Release

I installed Mint 18.3 BETA on my System76 Pangolin laptop a couple of days ago and have had zero problems. It's a good stable release from my perspective. Congratulations to all who contributed to the release! :D

Re: Why Linux Mint Won

Like many Linuxers, I spent too much time distro-hopping and probably tried a couple of dozen popular and not so popular distros. Inevitably, an update or upgrade would break my setup and, lacking the skills to fix such breaks, I'd be forced to reinstall or return to my go-to distro, Mint, because i...

Great upgrade and a definitely improvement over 18.1. Thanks to Clem and the Mint team. :D

Logout/Shutdown Problem

I'm running Mint 18.1 Cinnamon on my aging System76 Pangolin laptop and have no problem with logout/shutdown. However, on my new System76 Sable desktop, I'm unable to shutdown after I logout because the system hangs during shutdown. Since this problem didn't occur when I ran Ubuntu or Ubuntu MATE, o...

Re: Solution to shutdown problems on Linux Mint 15

I had hoped that this solution would work for me as well. I'm running Mint 18.1 Cinnamon on my aging System76 Pangolin laptop and have no problem with logout/shutdown. However, on my new System76 Sable desktop your first solution works fine. It's when I logout and then try to shut down, that I have ...

If you're on BunsenLabs or Manjaro you have. I used to be on SolydXK as well.

That might be true for ZaReason, but System76 ships to many countries: Europe, GB, Ireland, Scandinavia, as well as parts of Asia and South America. :D

Re: Upgrading ??

I recommend either https://system76.com/ or http://zareason.com/shop/home.php computers. System76 comes with Ubuntu pre-installed and ZaReason offers a choice of Linux distros or none, so you can install whatever you want.

Back again

Greetings all, I used to post here as 3fRI but am known on a couple of other Linux forums as g33zr. I've been using Linux for some 10 years and, like many of you, have done my share of distro-hopping over the years. Mint has always been a reliable refuge for me in Linuxland, so here I am--back again...
