Re: Change from Xfce to Mate
In any case, a new install could get some use from using the mint Backup Tool started from the old install. Programs + User data.

Re: About to install - it wrongly says "no other operating system" ...
The first disk(/dev/sda) shows a GPT partitioning scheme(opposed to old legacy method MBR). The info shows that with this installer usb, mint, it shows you are booting in UEFI-Legacy mode, which would mean a legacy BIOS mode and that mode will look for boot records in the disk MBR, -and this is why ...

Re: About to install - it wrongly says "no other operating system" ...
The reason why it says that is because the mint iso is booted using a different boot mode than the existing Win10 system.
Show us the system info output from that live session.

Re: Change from Xfce to Mate
The mint desktop packages are called: mint-meta-cinnamon , mint-meta-mate , and mint-meta-xfce . When you install from scratch one of those in already built-in naturally. You can just add another one, and then you get the option during the login window to select the option icon and select which vari...

https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/gir1.2-webkit2-4.0 note on that info, that specific package version is available and functional on focal and jammy, that's ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 LTS bases, which translates to mint 20.x and mint 21.x, but it is not available anymore on bionic 18.04, which is mint 1...

Re: Can root commands be done by conky? [SOLVED]
Well, sort of. :D follow along. -it's the same as Koentje is saying. The first command is important, and every one after that too. -in this case, a lot of output to just get 1 single item of info. In my opinion you shouldn't be using that command for this situation, so on that note, I think it's not...

Re: Can root commands be done by conky? [SOLVED]
I was using inxi from a 20.x install, so formatted slightly differently with the different version. The whole point though, try your best to reach for something that has a lesser impact. I checked the output, just simple check, use both the commands piped to wc . One counted like 100 lines or someth...

Re: Can root commands be done by conky?
I tried the inxi command but I didn't get the expected output. I played with it a bit and it seems to be the wrong section of data: oh. did you "play with" just: inxi -M -not as much guessing at the other modifications then. Anyway, I'm going off the topic. there's relevant info, but just...

Re: Can root commands be done by conky?
the less processing would be the desired goal. all good suggestions, of course anything to make it less load is better. there are 1000 ways to do it. this is another, but not using sudo: inxi -M | grep Type | awk '{print $3}' one command outputs like 100 lines, that one outputs 2 lines. or, you gonn...

Re: Can Mint Xfce be installed onto a partition made by Windows Hard Drive Manager?
The answer is no, but you can make empty space using Windows. Don't try to format for a Linux partition from Windows, you just waste your time it will not work and it will be created correctly from the Linux installer. You can create/format Linux partitions easily using the live installer session GP...

im just guessing at syntax and hoping for a miracle. that's not a great idea. you waste your time: https://github.com/brndnmtthws/conky/wiki/Configurations#settings https://github.com/brndnmtthws/conky/wiki/Configurations#variables you can do it: man conky > ~/.conky/THEconkymanual the exact precis...

Re: What's the purpose of using compatibility mode when running LM under Live USB?
When you boot, the kernel collates all the very specific hardware pieces, even down to the exact chip id, and it will use specific modules to handle each of those pieces as it boots up and builds the system into place, loading whatever is appropriate. If you boot onto a box made from 2024-dated hard...

Re: Hexchat can't connect to any servers.
It looks like a dns issue. check on terminal command: ping spotchat.org for example I am getting ip 185.123.52.103, but it depends on where you are on the world, there are about 5 server nodes each with different ip resolution based on locale. You can actually edit or add another server entry for sp...

something is not quite right with the gpu driver or monitor setting or both or something, you can see the icons hanging off the edge of the screen. In fact it doesn't look all that crisp either.

Re: Random freeze - Should I get NVIDIA driver or stay with Open-source driver
Hi meazz1, Welcome. you have 2024 hardware setup, you should get into a kernel that is recent. Default 5.15 is not. Use Update Manager -> "View" menu -> Linux kernels, install the more recent 6.5 one, reboot. I would do the nvidia proprietary driver yes, given from "Driver Manager&quo...

You're not using nvidia proprietary, that's the nouveau driver/renderer shown, so not surprising to get bad reaction in these cases of performance gaming.
