Re: transfer OS to usb stick?

You sound like you want to copy a live system. This is not the way to do it. Seems to be the exact same way WharfRat does it, although by keeping the folder and just excluding the contents I skip a step. Does not seem me this way. You boot from a live media and mount both source and target drive an...

Re: transfer OS to usb stick?

First, you do not need to exclude all those directories. They will be empty. You boot from an external media to perform this copy. The contents of /dev, /proc, /sys, /tmp, and /run are excluded in the above command, because they are populated at boot, although the folders themselves are not created...

Re: transfer OS to usb stick?

rsync -aAXv --exclude={"/dev/*","/proc/*","/sys/*","/tmp/*","/run/*","/mnt/*","/media/*","/lost+found"} / /path/to/backup/folder stick should be formatted the same as your ssd, i.e. ext4 Edit: Making it bootable is better done with WharfRat's script. this should work in theory, I have not done this...

Re: [SOLVED] External HDD not working with Linux Mint 18 - ACER Aspire E15

You could also try disabling uas for that device if the problem comes back.

Code: Select all

sudo bash -c 'cat <<EOF >/etc/modprobe.d/ignore_uas.conf
options usb-storage quirks=059b:0070:u
EOF' | sudo update-initramfs -u
Then restart.
(note to others: quirks=Vendor_ID:Product_ID:u)

Some feedback on LMDE 2

I liked this on first first boot live, installed and booted smooth. Great performance but a few things glared. 1) 191 updates, one conflict resulting in one broken package 2) autologin install option created key ring pop ups, needed to install seahorse to fix. 3) very bad screen tearing from default...

Re: Screen tearing on Linux Mint 18

If you are using default AMD driver paste this into terminal

Code: Select all

sudo bash -c 'cat <<EOF >/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-amd.conf
Section "Device"
   Identifier "amd Graphics"
   Driver "radeon"
   Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection
EOF'
