Re: VPN client with a GUI?

Hi borg101, I do not know of any hardware router or VPN provider that has a GUI for all their VPN servers that would update your hardware router? Most hardware routers that support VPN's already have a GUI interface through your browser to import individual VPN server configuration files like openV...

VPN client with a GUI?

It's that time of year folks. My VPN subscription with IPVanish has run out. I wanted to do this last year, but I forgot to turn autopayments off and it was too late for a refund when I realized it. lol. I don't want to have to deal with configuring multiple servers through OpenVPN, then configure t...

Foss financial/budgeting software recommendations?

I'm looking for some financial software. Something with budgeting and money management. Ideally, it would also work with financial institutions and have bill pay. And when I say Foss I mean free as in freedom. I don't mind paying if it's going to help me save more.

Re: USB formatting software that will remove permissions and wipe?

The gparted application will do all the above: sudo apt install gparted Then run it from your menu. You'll need to enter your password again to start the application. Within the application there are options to: select the device you want to operate on, refresh the list, via a menu option, of devic...

Re: [SOLVED] Problems logging into the forums

just a follow up, if you delete all your cookies/history/cache and get the same error logging in it means that cookies were stored in browser when you opened it with on extensions. so if at some point you can't login after doing some cleanup, you will still have to configure that one extension disa...

USB formatting software that will remove permissions and wipe?

Hey guys. Is there any USB formatting software that will clear permissions, wipe the entire partition table, create a new partition, then format? I have A LOT of flash drives from work promotions. I hand them out quite frequently. One consistent problem I run into is about 40% of them end up giving ...

[SOLVED] Problems logging into the forums

Hey guys. I've had to reset my password a handful of times the past few days and I'm still having issues logging in. 1. Visit forums.linuxmint.com and login with username and password. - receive "incorrect password" error. 2. Retry login in case of user error. - receive "incorrect password" error. 3...

Re: Arch question....

you are contradicting yourself arch repos and AUR are separate entities. i still use pamac-aur-5.1.1 on my arch and don't care to upgrade because the new pamac resembles a software center too much. did you search your menu for Add Remove Software pr Pamac which is the same thing? what exactly is th...

Arch question....

Hey guys! It's been awhile. :( Unfortunately, work and family crap got in the way of my being on the forums. Also, I haven't been using Mint as a daily driver for a few months because I've been toying with other distros....which I feel guilty about for some reason. lol. I guess because Mint and the ...

Re: You want more windows users? Focus the gamers

I think if you can get a sound version of playonlinux running and have a basic OS that runs the most minimal resources so that when they run windows apps/games through pol they dont have to install the needed files to run it, but they install themselves. All people really want is a fast OS with the...

Screen turns green during shut down

So, I'm not sure why this is happening, but I recently was checking out Ubuntu 18.04, and on shutdown, my screen would turn green. After I was done checking out some of the new features, I reinstalled Mint 19 v2. And now, the same thing is happening. I completely wiped my ssd, so I'm unsure what the...

Re: Name of the "Login" application in Settings?

In Settings of what? On my Mint Cinnamon 18.3 it's called Login Window in the settings. But it seems you want the package name? I believe that's 'Login'. In the settings of Login Window, you can switch HiDPI on lightdm. I've been looking for the package name and haven't been able to find it by sear...

Name of the "Login" application in Settings?

I'm configuring a laptop for my son whom wants to use Ubuntu. It has a HiDPI display and I have yet to successfully get gdm login to work with HiDPI. I know lightdm does since I use Mint 19, but I am unsure what the name of the "Login" application is so I can install the package on his laptop.

Re: Switching DE brings back old audio output issue....

How do you install a DE without one already in place, i.e. Cinnamon,XFCE, etc? Basically, you don't (unless you're experienced enough to deal with possible fallout). You install the Mint version that has the DE you want, and you stick with that. Yeah, that's what I'm here for. I've fixed this issue...

Re: Switching DE brings back old audio output issue....

Installing multiple DEs is actually one of the more common beginner mistakes, especially with something like Gnome 3. Sounds like you broke your OS. Unfortunately the usually recommended fix for such problems is a data backup and clean reinstall. SOrry but that's the way it is. Problems caused by t...

Switching DE brings back old audio output issue....

Fist, let me say...I didn't know how to phrase the subject so it would make sense. So, I had a problem awhile back where every time my computer would go to sleep, the default audio output source would switch from HDMI to Digital Out. Here's the original <a href="https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopi...

Re: GNOME3 question to satisfy my OCD

I've not heard of any extensions that can do that. Perhaps with a standalone additional dock like Docky, AWN or Cairo Dock? That would add a dock to the bottom of your screen. No idea if/how well such work with Gnome Shell or if that will give you want you need. As I write this I'm thinking it's a ...

Re: Digital assistants for Linux?

You mean a digital assistant like Siri? Not a well supported thing in Linux. The only one I can find is mycroft, and that's not a simple install. Seems like a work in progress. https://mycroft.ai/documentation/linux/ Yeah, that's all I found as well. There are others written about but can't find an...
