Re: How often to run BleachBit

I'm afraid you're unlikely to get any useful replies in this forum... you'll get the usual "Danger Will Robinson! It's a software wrecking ball!". And you'll get the "It's perfectly safe, select everything". You'll not get too many that are between the two that give reasonable advice of how to use ...

Re: What does the Linux Mint Development Cycle Look like?

Hey guys! So yeah, first post. I just wanted to know how the Mint team takes Ubuntu/Debian and turns it into Mint/LMDE and the exact steps involved. I wanted to email the folks on the Mint team, but I suppose I'll try this first. I wanted to know how they did it so I could make my own derivative si...

Re: ACPI Error/CPU soft lockup

...not really sure i understand - the instructions for editing GRUB are as much clear as possible (they don't come from me after all, lol...but from Ubuntu & Mint's sites themselves). Your system is extremely new, even for Mint 19 at this point. Did you updated first the BIOS to the latest version?...

...scroll down to the paragraph " Solving freezes during the boot sequence ", it contains short step-by-step video illustrations: https://linuxmint.com/rel_tara_cinnamon.php (you could also further have a look here ...) Thanks for all your help. Unfortunately, none of the solutions seemed to fix th...

Re: ACPI Error/CPU soft lockup

...first things first, being a Ryzen user / owner, you should update your BIOS to the latest available version. ...secondly, you should have a look at this & also this . Sample (successful) thread / procedure in the past here as well. On Mint 18, you edit Grub via: gksudo xed /etc/default/grub , ma...

Re: point of focus jumps randomly

This may sound dumb, but it sounds like a stuck key or busted touch screen. I also found a bug on Github for Mint 17.3. Check it out here... https://github.com/mate-desktop/marco/issues/251

ACPI Error/CPU soft lockup

Hey guys. I've popped parts of this error into Google and have found that this is an IOMMU error with the Ryzen chipset (Mine is a 2700U in this case), but I have been unable to find a fix for it. I should note that Fedora is the only OS that sees it and continues to function with it. I've tried a f...

I remember hearing something about this on the Ubuntu forums a few weeks ago. Just searching around I found this https://askubuntu.com/questions/1032109 ... untu-18-04. I hope it helps.

Re: Can't modify partitions

So you're trying to access the Windows partition from Mint, correct? Does Mint see the drive and is it mounting it?

Re: Lenovo ThinkPad T470s wakes up from suspend after 2s

Hi, I have recently switched from Ubuntu to Mint (19 Cinnamon, v3.8.8, 4.15.0-29-generic) - it is now a fresh install and I have just now updated to the most recent BIOS version (1.27). I noticed that when I put my laptop to suspend it loses a lot of power, so I noticed when I dmesg | grep suspend ...

Re: How to view/navigate a mounted drive [SOLVED]

Is it an NTFS partition? gparted recognizes them as does disks, but neither will automount them. If you find out the UUID of the drive, regardless of formatting, and edit fstab in /etc it will automount. To get the UUID: cat /etc/fstab sudo blkid -c /dev/null -o list Then, just like you did, manuall...

Re: Best Mint 19 version for a touch screen

Hi all, I just acquired a Lenovo C-40-05 all-in-one with a touch screen. I installed the 64-bit Cinnamon version, and it works fine but doesn't seem to support touch input other than barely on the bottom panel. I'd like to take advantage of the touch if possible, so which version is the best for th...

Re: Waterfox not opening maximized

I have installed Waterfox, manage to create a shortcut/link in the deskbar, but it is not opening maximized whatever I try. The opening sized seem to be seem the same, the window position random with every new opening. I found that these settings are stored in xulstore.json and tried to edit that, ...

Re: Snap/Flatpak/Deb pkg advantages/disadvantages?

There's a good recent blog post about Flatpak vs Snap adoption: https://kamikazow.wordpress.com/2018/06/08/adoption-of-flatpak-vs-snap-2018-edition/. Flatpak appears to be in a better place than Snap. If a Flatpak is available, and your distro supports Flatpak (more likely the case than that Snap i...

Snap/Flatpak/Deb pkg advantages/disadvantages?

So I'm a little familiar with most of the package managers and distribution methods. What I am unclear on is are there any advantages or disadvantages to installing one over the other? For instance, in the software manager, there are both traditional packages as well as flatpaks of, for example, VLC...

Re: Best choice for a used/refurbed Linux friendly laptop?

+1 for Thinkpads. Bought an ex-lease T450s several years ago and it hasn't missed a beat! Holy crap! I'm looking at some of the buy it now prices for the specs....seems almost too good to be true. I bought my wife a Lenovo Yogabook 3 or 4 years ago and I am still impressed with the performance as "...

Just curious....is there anyway to change the color of nemo when in root access? Best choice for a used/refurbed Linux friendly laptop?

Up until this point I have been giving my 13 year old son a few 5-7 year old laptops to play with. I've been emphasizing Linux and open source for a few years now. Now he wants to venture into video editing and 3d modeling. I'm looking for ideas for something in the $400-$500 (USD) price range and n...
