Re: Linux Mint 18 cinnamon to 18.1

So basically upgrade if there is a feature I need in the new OS, to fix some bugs, or wait until my current OS support is nearing its end, in this case 2021. However, if I were to upgrade (through the update manager) would I lose all my programs and current configurations, and would have to have to ...

Linux Mint 18 cinnamon to 18.1 <Solved>

So it gives me the option to upgrade through the update manager. I was wondering if I actually "should" upgrade? If I upgrade does it erase all my data and do I have start as if I installed a fresh new OS, or does it keep all my settings and applications and configurations? According to the blog it ...

Re: Pavucontrol in Linux Mint

Yeah, I'm using Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon. When I did have it installed I tried opening the application through the start menu, however, it wouldn't open up, it would just be stuck. So I couldn't even try changing settings. So that is when I uninstalled it. I'm not sure if I need it or not but in one t...

Pavucontrol in Linux Mint

Should I get pavucontrol in linux mint? I was following this guide https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/mint-cinnamon-first#TOC-Install-a-better-Flash-Player-and-some-useful-tools-for-system-management and it said to get pavucontrol. However, when I did get pavucontrol, for some reason...

Re: Viruses on Linux Mint

Yeah I think I'll keep it disabled, I don't think I use anything in my browser that requires it to be enabled anyway. So based on what I've read around here and on the forums, its agreed upon that anti-virus isn't really necessary on linux mint, and that the best defense is keeping the system up-to-...

Re: Viruses on Linux Mint

Two things guaranteed to start an argument on this forum , Viruses and Bleachbit. Sorry, that wasn't my intention  I didn't know it was that controversial. @Pjotr Oh wow, I didn't know that was you who wrote that website. I followed your advice on first 10things to do after installin...

Re: I can't delete a file. Can't create new user.

Lol my bad I thought you were talking about something else for that moment. So yeah I did the complete removal thing from the package manager for plexmediaserver, the file was still there though. So I accessed the var/lib/ directory as root and deleted the plexmediaserver folder like that. So i gues...

I can't delete a file. Can't create new user.

I'm trying to completely remove plex, so i can install it fresh again.

The folder I'm trying to delete is in var/lib/plexmediaserver.

Also, I'm trying to create a new user, but Linux mint won't let me. When I press add it just stays and nothing happens.
How do I fix this?

Viruses on Linux Mint

I read that anti-virus isn't really necessary or needed on Linux, or Linux Mint. However, there are still viruses that affect Linux. So my question is how would I know if I had a virus on Linux. How does it behave as opposed to windows. How would I find it and remove it, and how to check for them in...

Linux Mint 18 to 18.1 [Solved]

I just wanted to know how this upgrade works. Does it upgrade through the update manager or are you suppose to do a clean system install?

Re: Sound Device keeps disappearing

Does this happen after the computer is hybernated or goes to sleep mode? No I have hybernate disabled, and and I don't put my computer in sleep mode. Are you running 'firejail'? If so, see #4 in Pjotr's great 'Easy Linux Tips Project' here . Yes I use firejail for firefox currently. However, I unin...
