Re: Has my hdd malfunctioned???

I've been wasting a lot of time lately with a half-broken hard drive.
The corresponding programs don't (yet) declare the disk as broken, although it is demonstrably unusable.
The new SSD wasn't expensive - and it's fast too...

Hallo Johann,

bin gerade im Umzugs-Stress. Aber sobald ich wieder halbwegs eingerichtet bin, werde ich Dein Script auf jeden Fall ausprobieren - und Dich gewiss mit Fragen bombardieren.

Re: Which AGP cards work on an IBM P50 tower?

A small addendum:
An AGP card by today's standards is not fast. And Linux Mint doesn't make it faster either.
You can also use a simple PCI graphics card to control a VGA monitor.
Even with them: Nvidia or ATI...

Re: can't connect to WPA2 network

I am currently connected to a WPA2 wifi network via Mint 17.3.
Also Mint 18.3 on the other device has no problems and neither does my Android tablet.
And for customers where the landline network is freaking out via Ethernet I use my smartphone the same way (Mac & Windows usually...)

Re: Which AGP cards work on an IBM P50 tower?

My described IBM server had a mini PCI graphics card installed (8 MB - Yes! 8 MB with VGA connection...) This was too stupid for me always 10 years ago and I just bought the Nvidia Quadro at an auction. The quality was - and is - very good. Speed? Ask a gamer - I'm an illustrator... 82865G is a buil...

Re: Which AGP cards work on an IBM P50 tower?

Well, absque fenestris, you've really helped. I feel confident that if I call my local PC shop tomorrow, and if they have a Nividia or ATI 4x AGP card, I can buy it with confidence that it'll work. Thank you. Too bad you're not a neighbor: I could give you some old AGP's from the drawer...

Re: Which AGP cards work on an IBM P50 tower?

Well, I've really learned something new. I was too fixated on Xeons and PowerPC chips.

What I said about AGP graphics cards still applies: 4 x always works, 8 x depending on the board. Except Nvidia or ATI I wouldn't use anything, because there (was) not widespread enough.

Re: Which AGP cards work on an IBM P50 tower?

All I want to run is my VGA monitor. My problem is that without a graphics card, the CPU has to process all the screen painting . Which makes scrolling slow and clunky. I want an AGP card to process my browser's and text editor's outputs. No - there is in machines from 2002/2003 something like a gr...

Re: Which AGP cards work on an IBM P50 tower?

You can basically plug in any AGP card (there were 4x and, super expensive 8x graphics cards). Which one the board supports, I don't know... 4x AGP works in any case. Nividia's and, as they were called at that time, ATI cards should (should...) be supported. By the way: I find Cinnamon quite courage...

Re: Which AGP cards work on an IBM P50 tower?

The Quadro4 900 XGL was a professional graphics card by NVIDIA, launched in February 2002. Built on the 150 nm process, and based on the NV25 A2 graphics processor, in its NV25 GL variant, the card supports DirectX 8.1. The NV25 A2 graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 142 ...

Mint Mate 18.3 will be supported for a few more years. It runs stable, is very user friendly and as far as you accept Flatpak and SystemD you have no problems with it.
Flatpak can also be thrown away...
