Thanks for pointing out OCRFeeder. I just loaded it with Synaptic and tried it out in Mint 20.0 Cinnamon.
Works great.
A little hint: adjust the desired language in the default settings - this way, e.g. in German, all umlauts are recognized.

No idea about LaTeX, but you could definitely use Scribus for a large book project.

Re: menu display after typing name "Synaptic" shows mousepad
This must be related to the Synaptics touchpad driver (even if it is not loaded).

... then I would - very cheeky - rename Pix in XViewer ...
Seriously: I've already read in the German forum that XViewer can have printing problems. Switching to Pix as the standard image viewer shouldn't cause too much difficulty.
In addition, the print settings are very flexible.

Re: Update Manager offering to 'upgrade' my kernel to an OLDER version. WHAT?
The term "superseded" can be a bit confusing - it doesn't mean "superfluous".
Especially with older devices, one or more superseded kernels are kept to be on the safe side if the device cannot handle an update.

Re: Update Manager offering to 'upgrade' my kernel to an OLDER version. WHAT?
For example, if you did the system installation with a 5.4 kernel and then upgraded to the 5.8 kernel, the 5.4 kernel is still present and updates are offered for both kernels.
If this were the case for you, you could remove the 5.4 kernel.

Just to be sure: have you loaded a 5.4 kernel in addition to the 5.8 kernel?

Re: Embedded Adobe PDF can't display in Firefox (LM19.2)
If, according to your bank, you need Adobe Reader to edit the PDF, it doesn't look so good. There was a Linux version many years ago - but it is completely out of date. What is perhaps closest to Adobe Reader or Acrobat under Linux is the Master PDF Editor. However, the latest full version costs USD...

A few additions to LMDE 4 and Debian: LMDE 4 runs fantastic as a guest in the VirtualBox under Windows 10. The sparse updates are also positively noticed here. Installation is child's play and so are the settings. The second system that runs great in the Virtualbox: Debian KDE Buster ... Mint MATE a...

Ha, I figured this out last night when I re-read the other linked thread, and realized that both @absque fenestris, and myself were running MATE 20.1 in virtual machines. Hi rickNS which in turn is very interesting that the touchpad is recognized very well in the virtual LMDE 4 Cinnamon - please se...

Re: Embedded Adobe PDF can't display in Firefox (LM19.2)
For situations like this it is always an advantage to work with multiple web browsers. I can highly recommend Vivaldi. It came with advertising and tracking filters, which I supplemented with uBlock Origin and Decentraleyes. What I can't understand: Adobe Acrobat costs a little - do you mean Adobe R...

Re: How do I view my Favorites Applet?
There are obviously some differences between Mint 20.0 and 20.1 Cinnamon: in Mint 20.0 Favorites do not appear in the Menu (as a folder) or in the tree view window of Nemo (as a star).

Re: Xreader Fenstergröße
Hallo paljass
Okular lag irgendwo dazwischen.
