Re: What MP3 Players Do Linux Users Use?

I currently use the Sandisk Clip Plus with Rockbox for my music. It's old and the clip is broken off. You can no longer buy these. I've always found it kind of funny that they build their whole brand line around the 'Clip' name, and the clip is the most unreliable thing about the device. Every one ...

Re: What MP3 Players Do Linux Users Use?

I like keeping an MP3 player in my car, which is old enough that it doesn't have a fancy infotainment system and just uses an AUX jack. I like using the Sansa Clip players. They change the model every few years. I think I have the Sansa Clip Zip. They come with an expansion slot for microSD cards, s...

Re: Urgh! Switching from mouse to trackball

I can't use that model because I'm left-handed... I find that kind of strange. I'm left-handed, and I would never want to use a mouse in my left hand. I'm not sure if that's learned, because most mice are meant for right-handed people, or something instinctual. I kind of wish I could remember...

Re: Urgh! Switching from mouse to trackball

I've used a trackball for as long as I can remember. I like the ones where you control with the thumb. The others seem bizarre to me.

I used to use Logitech tackballs. But I recently switched to Elecom.

Re: Include the latest NVIDIA (and AMD) graphics drivers for a better out-of-the-box experience

I think this is something that should be considered. With Steam's Proton getting some attention in gaming circles, there has been some more interest in people wanting to try Linux for gaming. The biggest barrier seems to be video driver issues. Thinking from the perspective of a typical Windows user...

Re: Get Bluetooth USB working on 19.1

I have the same Bluetooth USB controller. It should work when you plug it in, with nothing extra needed. What issues are you having? It should light up with a blue light when you plug it into the USB port. Open the terminal (press Ctrl+Alt+t), and enter this: lsusb | grep -i blue Note that if you're...

Re: Need help choosing Bluetooth card for linux mint desktop pc

I'd be interested to know what these command result tell you because not being a tech wizard I don't understand much of it. I'm using an Asus USB BT-400 bluetooth dongle. It's ok in Linux but as I said my pc randomly loses sight of the dongle. Not frequently, but enough to be annoying. I only need ...

Re: Need help choosing Bluetooth card for linux mint desktop pc

I've tried a few different USB dongles and they all kind of suck. I was actually curious about the Asus dongle. Could you do me a favour and provide the output of: hciconfig -a and: lsusb | grep -i 'blue' In my experience, dongles that use the Broadcom chipset don't work well. They have poor range, ...

I have the new .run version successfully installed.

In the old version of the PIA installer, I had a similar issue. The problem was caused because I was running the installer from an NTFS partition.

Re: Inline Skaters Here?

I never use the rubber heel brake. I used it when I first began, but after learning to T-stop, I entirely removed it. I imagine you could stop/brake on ice skates the same, but I wouldn't know. I've had only one serious ankle injury since skating, and I never go out without a helmet and pads on. Th...

Re: Inline Skaters Here?

This is the first time I've heard the name Mission. The skates I primarily use are Powerslides, with 110's. I absolutely love it. I started losing weight a while back ago, and the first thing I wanted to do once I was fit enough was get into skating. Its a great cardio, and I hope to be one day in ...

That is exactly what this chat forums is for. D...

Re: Installing Private Internet Access VPN

I just installed the newest version. It looks like they changed the installer. It used to be a .tar.gz file that would extract a .sh file for installation. The newest version is a .run file. Are you by chance trying to run the installer from a NTFS partition? I dual-boot with Windows (rarely), but I...

Re: In .mkv video files I have green screen

My guess would be that there is an issue with hardware decoding. It shouldn't matter whether the file is .mkv or .mp4. It's more likely you cannot decode h264 videos. If the video player you use provides an option to turn off hardware acceleration, you can try that. But if you want to use hardware a...

You can try running Origin using Wine and DXVK. Lutris has an installer for it.

I am able to run Origin (although it crashes after about 15 minutes, but others have had more success), and I've been able to play Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 2, and Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

Re: Xbox controller paired, but nonresponsive

How are you testing your controller? I have the Xbox One S controller on Mint 19.1 and use the xpadneo driver and use a Bluetooth dongle. When I pair my controller (vibrates and light stays solid), the controller works. But it is not listed when I use xinput. I'm not really familiar with retropie, b...

Re: What sends noobs running back to Windows?

So Blu-Ray players are NOT supported under Linux? That is good to know. That's not entirely true. There is some support. I've found it a bit hit and miss. The issue (for commercial Blu Rays, such as movies and TV shows) is AACS encryption. Even on Windows, you generally need rather expensive softwa...

Re: Mesa VA-API Video acceleration drivers keep trying to update

It looks like you're using the Oibaf PPA. You posted that it's the same driver but you listed two different versions of the driver.

The Oibaf PPA updates the driver at least once a day.

As gm10 said, you need to disable the PPA for Oibaf.

Re: Might be ready to jump to 18.3 MATE, question about AMD Radeon HD7850 and AMDGPU-PRO

I have a Radeon HD7850. Only one, so no Crossfire setup. So I can't speak to any issues with that. The default radeon driver works well. I've never had an issue with it. As far as I've seen there's no reason to stick with the old fglrx proprietary driver. If you want to use Proton and Vulkan, switch...
