Re: Typing special ►►►ACSII codes

Maybe someone knows of a better way, but you can try unicode. To make a unicode character hold Ctrl+Shift, then press u Then enter the unicode hex value. There's a chart here: https://www.ssec.wisc.edu/~tomw/java/unicode.html So, I think you would want 25B8, then press Ctrl+Shift again. You should g...

Re: Sad to say, but this sucks

Okay, we get it. You're just a low-effort troll. But let's pretend you aren't. Those $6 keys you get from key vendors, while they do work, are generally obtained through unauthorized means. Windows is not $6. And the key error in logic you are making is that the only reason that you can fix everythi...

Re: AMD Video Drivers, worth the trouble to install?

If you're not playing games, then the drivers that come with Mint should be good enough. Even if playing games, the drivers in Mint are better than the ones from AMD's site. The only advantage to AMD's drivers is the OpenCL/compute layer ("ROCm"), but that can be installed as a separate c...

Re: Sad to say, but this sucks

But I would also add that you should not just immediately give up in frustration because changing is difficult. Of course it is going to be difficult. You're learning something new. The tricky part of this is how much effort should you put into getting a game to work in Linux? A day, a week, a mont...

Re: libGL Error Crashes RetroArch on Start

I use the PPA version of Retroarch. I remember having a crash issue on startup. It was because I changed the video driver in the settings. But, because Retroarch was crashing immediately when I started it, there was no way to change the graphics settings. But Retroarch's settings are stored in a con...

I want Linux to be viable. I hate Microsoft and Apple. I also have no choice if I wish to GAME. Like so many before it seems.......I came, I tried and I am leaving again because GAMES. Better luck to the rest of you and I hope one day that gamers can come over to the community en masse. Let me star...

Re: Sad to say, but this sucks

Declaring that you are "good with computers" is meaningless. If you are starting out using Linux, no matter how experienced you are with Windows, you are still a beginner with Linux. When I first started using Linux, I also thought I was "good with computers". I made a lot of mis...

Re: Applications are opening on the wrong monitor

This is something I've had an issue with for a long time. The issue seems to stem from having the Primary monitor on the right side and secondary monitor(s) on the left. I only have two monitors, but my primary monitor is the right-most monitor. My uneducated guess would be that it has to do with ho...

Re: SSD testing?

You should be able to check the SMART data for your drive in 'Disks' under the 'System Settings'. You can pick the drive you want to see information for. Then at the top right of the window there should be an icon with three vertical dots. Click on that and in the menu that pops up pick 'SMART Data ...

Re: blacklist: Problem blacklisting hash (-13)

I have this as well.

One thing to keep in mind that just because a message shows up, doesn't mean it's an error. Sometimes a warning message is just a message.

The real question is, are you experiencing any issues? Is something not working?

If the answers are no, then you don't have a problem.

Re: Does NextPvr have quotas?

I use NextPVR. I avoided using the nextpvr user. It is not recommended, but it made things easier for me. I just set the user that runs nextpvr to my own user account and that avoided all the potential permission issues. I'd suggest doing a Timeshift backup, in case it messes things up further, but ...

Re: HDMI Monitor not working correctly via DP

I'm not sure if you'd see the symptoms you're seeing, but some of these adapters are cheap and unreliable. I had a DisplayPort to HDMI extension adapter and it would work for about 20 minutes and then just drop the signal. And I think all DisplayPort to HDMI cables are unidirectional. But if that we...

Re: TP link UB500 not working

I've had a lot of issues with Bluetooth lately. I do have the TP Link UB500 dongle and it does work, but it is a pain to connect anything. There were a number of known issues with the UB500, and a few of them have been fixed in recent firmware updates. But I'm not sure if the firmware updates are th...

Re: Slideshow from folders and their subfolders all together?

Can you make a symlink of all the files into another folder and then just run the slideshow from the folder with all the symlinked folder? Something like this should work if you create a file called slideshow.sh, add this code to it, and run it: INPUTFOLDER="/path/to/folder/with/images" DE...

Re: Realtek RTL8761B bluetooth 5 supoort?

I have a TP-Link dongle (UB500) that has the same chipset. I've had no luck with it. There were some posts in these forums and elsewhere about a bug where the wrong firmware was loaded, and you could symlink some files to load the proper firmware. This was supposedly fixed in a recent linux-firmware...

Re: Email Client recommendation for Mint?

I prefer just using the web client. Browser is open all the time anyway. Just open it in a tab and pin the tab. I use Vivaldi for similar reasons. Except the email client is built into the browser, so you don't need to deal with various web interfaces. But it is fairly new, so there are some rough ...

Re: casting to regular TV

This brings up a pet peeve of mine: people writing directions leaving out steps or other details that they assume everyone already knows. A few decades ago, I overheard an otherwise useless supervisor advise, when writing reports, assume the person who is going to read it is an idiot. That was his ...

Re: Mouse is hallucinating double clicks all over the place - what to do?

99% of the time when someone is having an issue with double-clicks, the problem is the mouse button is starting to fail. You'll usually see two symptoms - random double-clicks and an inability to hold the mouse button down without it randomly releasing (for example, try holding the mouse button on y...
