Linux Mint Users Guide

LM 18.3 Sylvia Xfce In the Linux Mint start page there is a link to down load a user's guide. So I am browsing through the various Editions and find XFCE edition, oh this looks interesting, but there is a catch, it is written in German, or Hungarian, or Pottugueswe (brazil) only. Is there an English...

Re: print one page of PDF

lp -p 2 ~/Desktop/2019_MARCH_Agenda.pdf The first didn't work. The Second printed the whole file, instead of just page 2. I suppose if tinkered with it I could print page 2 using only the command line. This thread has given me a better grasp on the idea. Thanks Guys I believe that -p should in fact...

Re: print one page of PDF

]So these would work to tell the lp command where the file is as-well as it's name. lp -p 2 "~/Desktop/2019_MARCH_Agenda.pdf" In this case this would also work because your file name does not in fact include spaces. lp -p 2 ~/Desktop/2019_MARCH_Agenda.pdf The first didn't work. The Second printed t...

Linux kernels & update manager [SOLVED]

LM 18.3 Sylvia, Xfce When I installed Xfce it came with the 4.10 kernel, and my system was still taking nine minutes to boot. Then it was suggested in another thread that I install the 4.40 kernel, and now the system takes one and half minutes to boot. Now the linux kernels 4.10 through 4.15 also ha...

Re: print one page of PDF

The best answer in that thread is from SgtHawker: Open the pdf with your favorite reader. Click the print button, on the print window select options , then click page from and just enter the page number you wish to print. So what is your favorite reader? I tried it in Libra Office Draw and Writer a...

Re: print one page of PDF

Regarding the original question, suppose you want to print page 6 of document foo.pdf: lp -P 6 foo.pdf To print a range of pages (e.g. form 1 to 4) lp -P 1-4 foo.pdf Of course, man lp will tell you the rest of the story. So I tried, as you suggested and this the result; charles@charles-Inspiron-152...

Re: 19.1, Cinnamon: Turn off USB power monitoring?

There is a Power Management program in the menu. Have you made sure the problem isn't in your system bios? I get the impression you have purchased an external usb device, that might need drivers.

Re: foreign packages

You clearly didn't follow this essential little snippet in the linked thread - XFCE showing as a foreign package meant you had a problem with your Software Sources So re-installed the OS, and every thing is as it was, running a 4.40 kernel with Xfce, without the sounds, that's ok they were beginnin...

Is there a way to restore all LM 18.3? Or at least get what is missing back?
Sure, restore a Timeshift snapshot (or other system backup) from before the misadventure.
How do I do this in the Terminal. My muddled menu won't open Timeshift, and I do believe a restore point.

I don't have Xfce, but was it listed in foreign packages? Seems odd. Can you Timeshift back rather than reinstall?
Maybe but timeshift won't open from the menu, so I gotta figure out a way from the terminal

Re: foreign packages

Apparently Xfce is a foreigh package, as well as sounds for Xfce. After I removed the packages the system recommended I reboot, I did. I got the grub and the OS icon with the little dots, but nothing more. I waited up to 30 minutes, but nothing. I am currently running my old LM 17, to post this. Now...

foreign packages [SOLVED]

LM 18.3 Sylvia, Xfce So I was in Software Sources fixing another problem, and decided to do a little maintenance, and found something called foreign packages, options to get rid of them or downgrade them. Like what are foreign packages? What should I do with them? Are they something Opera would use?...
