Re: Firefox Alternative

I'll try to answer your questions: "why do you need permission to install a browser?" I'm not looking for permission. In Mint 19.3, Chromium had pretty good touch control. Firefox was laggy and jumpy. In Mint 20, Firefox has no touch control and Chromium is not available from the repository. Just lo...

Firefox Alternative

I recently updated to Mint 20 and am disappointed to find that Firefox will not respond to screen touch control. Touch control under Mint 19.3 was minimal but under Mint 20 it is zero. I have searched Firefox preferences and have also looked at "about:config" but I'm not sure if there is anything th...

Re: Question about using timeshift

I posted a question similar to yours recently. While relatively new to Mint, I am a long time Linux user. My long term philosophy has been that Linux distros are so easy to install, I never bothered doing any kind of backups of /; only /home. While experimenting and learning about my new Mint instal...

Problem with Repartitioning

I have a new (used) thinkpad with touchscreen and recently started using Mint Cinnimon because it works better with the touchscreen. Anyway, I have an external hard drive formatted htfs with a small amount of data on it. I wanted to reformat half of it to ext4 for use with Mint. I tried to use gpart...

Re: Backintime; How to Run It

Yup. Already have some Timeshift snapshots on it. I'm trying to write this as I wipe the egg off my face. I just discovered that the micro SD card had root privalages. Not sure why owner was root (maybe when I formatted?) but, as soon as I changed owner, Backintime was able to create a snapshot ther...

Re: Backintime; How to Run It

That's right. I was simply showing the screen I was talking about. As I described, I have filled all of that in several times with the same result.SB I just discovered the problem. Backintime apparently will not make a backup to a microsd card even though it "sees" it and allows a path entry to it. ...

Re: Backintime; How to Run It

Thanks for the link. It's strange that that didn't show up when I did a search for "backintime". Anyway, I have figured that all out. I have filled in everything appropriate including backup location, include, exclude, and Backintime does "see" by backup drive. After going through each page I click ...

Backintime; How to Run It [solved]

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but, How do you run BackInTime to get a backup? First, I installed BackInTime using the Software Mgr. When I open the GUI, it doesn't look like what is shown in the Software Mgr or in the documentation. According to the documentation, it appears that what I hav...

Timeshift Comments [solved]

When looking at the list of snapshots in Timeshift, there appears to be a place for comments. Can you actually put some information in there? If so, how?

Re: Full Disk Warning

I did the Timeshift restore and it worked great. After, I was able to log in with no problem and everything looks like it was before shutdown.
Thanks again.

Re: Full Disk Warning

OK but, I've got another problem. After my thank you, I made another Timeshift snapshot and then shutdown. When I came back to it, I was unable to login. The system boots to the login screen and I can put in my password but, after clicking enter the screen blinks and then it is back to the login scr...

Re: Full Disk Warning

Yes. Syslog.1 was 20 GB plus as was kern.log. Now deleted, both the Disk Usage Analyser and Gparted show / is a very happy 18GB and /var is down to about 2GB. What does ufw logging do? Yes. My computer does have a graphics tablet mode. It is the Thinkpad X1 Yoga with a screen that rotates a full 360...

Re: Full Disk Warning

No. I mean 20 GB. However, since i posted, the system has created a new syslog file and the old 20GB one is named syslog.1. I assume that is the result of running clean-log or did it simply reach a max size? I also assume that I can delete syslog.1. sudo du -h /var/log doesn't appear to include thos...

Re: Full Disk Warning

My log files are growing still. Both kern.log and syslog files have grown to about 20GB each. I ran clean-log.sh and the kern.log file is back to a minimal size. However, syslog is still at about 20GB. The following is the result of sudo du -h /var/log : 13M /var/log/journal/aaa642a1efb049fba8d6ca0c...
