Audio not working after Kernel Update

The latest kernel just came out 4.15.0.51.53, update from 4.15.0.50.52. Update Manager listed it and I installed. On reboot, my audio was completely dead and could not bring it back up. The audio device was completely missing, it's a RS780 HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 3200] Loaded back 4.15.0.50.52 and era...

Feature Request: Monitor size vs. resolution

I have 2 monitors. An ASUS 1920x1080 19" and an old NEC 1280x768 40".

I would like the interface between those monitors to represent their physical inches instead of the resolution. and I'm not even sure that's possible.

Re: Suggestion: Add minimal install option

What you do and do not use is so subjective - e.g. I don't use Firefox but there's no way you can distribute the system without a pre-installed web browser - that I'm also against this suggestion. It's easier to just remove what you don't want afterwards. I have a post-installation script that hand...

Re: How do I remove Manjaro

I would recommend installing Mint over Manjaro to get your GRUB2 back the way you know it, then use GParted to remove the new Mint partition and extend your real Mint partition back to all of the disk it used to be (split between Mint and Win10). If you still have the second Mint listed in GRUB, you...

Re: Transfer from Windows 10

I know of one wi-fi adapter that is made for Linux. It costs a little more, but a percent goes to your favorite distro.
Site also has other things that cost a little more.

Re: Transfer from Windows 10

I never had a big problem with updates. One time, only a very small one. But that was at the very start when LinuxMint19 was just released and I had it fixed with Timeshift in a minute or 2. Have you activated Timeshift already Naggis? Timeshift is a good backup program that can solve any problem t...

Re: Could not refresh the list of updates

Today had the same issue. Searched and found this post. All better now.

Thanks for posting the fix. Something I probably should have tried automatically.

Re: HDMI + Sound + Mint 18

@XeoNoX I went through everything on that post, however don't want what's playing to be killed on resume. My home phone is running through this computer and I suspend it when I'm not home. Needless to say, without the last items, it doesn't work. However, the first command, ran on resume, restarts ...

Re: Resume from Suspend forgets everything

I had the "works a few times then stops" issue, but it seems to be better and I'm not sure why. It also worked on all version 18, Cinnamon. Only seemed to start with LM19. It'd be nice to have some one chime in with more information. Like someone who understands where this problem is coming from. If...

Re: Resume from Suspend forgets everything

An option to prevent automatic login, if you want to need signing in, would be to toggle all those setting, reboot, then toggle them back. There might be one of them that's corrupt.

Re: Resume from Suspend forgets everything

It's a bug in Login. go to "System Settings" and "Login Window" Under the "Users" tab, put "Hid the user list" to "OFF" Under the "Settings" tab, put "HiDPI support" and "Monitor" both to "Auto" Reboot and it should work. Or, it did for me. Bugs are buggy that way. These settings should not effect t...

Resume from Suspend forgets everything

Beginning (that I know of) this morning (HST=GMT-10), when I resume from suspend, the computer completely forgets my desktop and I have to log in as if I rebooted. It reloads all the autostart programs and nothing I had open is still open. Even the password screen shows as if it's a fresh boot, not ...

Re: Kernel Question

I have the same question. What is the kernel that is recommended for Linux Mint? I'm running Cinnamon Edition and the active kernel is 4.8.0-53. Update Manager shows 4.8.0-58, but doesn't have it automatically set for installation and does not install with "apt upgrade". Highest kernel available is ...

Re: Issue with restarting LM Cinnamon 18.2

For some reason, ctrl+alt+esc worked this last time I tried it.

However, I still can't put that into a script and "cinnamon --replace", while it works, will not let the script continue.

Issue with restarting LM Cinnamon 18.2

Before the upgrade to 18.2, Cinnamon could be restarted simply by pressing CTRL+ALT+ESC, can this be confirmed to no long be used? Because of an audio issue, I restart Cinnamon periodically. Now, however, it doesn't work properly. CTRL+ALT+ESC does not work and running "cinnamon --replace &" restart...

Re: HDMI + Sound + Mint 18

You may have missed the issue I'm having. The audio does not switch to the "Built-in Audio" device on my computer, but the "RS780 HDMI Audio [Radeon (HD) 3000 Series]" output (speakers/monitor) is "unplugged" after resuming from suspend. I am running Alsa and Pulse, they just do not see the HDMI aud...

Re: No sound after suspend on Linux Mint 17.3

Found a work-around. First, try restarting Cinnamon "Ctrl+Alt+Esc" and see if audio starts working again. If it does, this work-around will work. Suspend is a keyboard shortcut. Disable it and create a new one, running this command: $ bash -c "systemctl suspend && export DISPLAY=:0.0 && cinnamon --r...
