Re: Attachment in New Email Opens in Firefox Instead of Document Viewer
Set the appropriate option to open PDF files in the *Thunderbird* preferences, on the "General" tab under "Files & Attachments". As mentioned in my post, "Thunderbird Preferences|General|Files & Attachments: all PDF entries are set to "Always ask"." i...

[SOLVED] Mint 20.3 restarts automatically after shutdown
Just did a fresh Installation of 20.3 64 Bit MATE on a desktop computer. Same symptoms: reboots a few seconds after apparent shutdown. It's a dual boot system with Windows 8.1. Windows does not have the problem. Changed from kernel 5.4 to 5.13, which did not help. The PC has a PCI-E Wi-Fi card. I've...

Re: Asus PRO16s Laptop not seeing second CPU core.
Have you tried with a distribution using the 4.15 kernel? Or a distribution not using the Ubuntu-tweaked kernel (such as a Debian-based distro)? Mint tends to operate on the 'cutting edge', while Debian is quite conservative, keeping in mind you have an old machine. Even the newest Debian-based dis...

Re: Asus PRO16s Laptop not seeing second CPU core.
the nosmp parameter is the cause Maybe I was not clear enough... I'm not actually using nosmp . the nolapic parameter also limits the cpu cores available. Yep, I understand that. But the laptop won't boot at all without that (and it also needs irqpoll ). So unless there is some other option that wi...

Asus PRO16s Laptop not seeing second CPU core.
Hi, I've done lots of searching here and on search engines. The laptop is Asus PRO61S, 4 GB, Intel Core2 Duo T6500 @2.1 GHz. About 2009 vintage. I've updated to the latest available BIOS. There is no UEFI or secure boot stuff. It's 64 bit. Initially live CD would not boot. After hunting around I fou...

Mint 20.1 Laptop Boot Stuck on Cursor but only if using Battery [SOLVED]
A new Dell Inspiron 15 3000 laptop. AMD Ryzen 5 3500U; AMD RAVEN graphics; 6 GB RAM; SSD; dual boot with Windows 10 S; Linux Mint 20.1 MATE. Installation, updates, etc all went well. But a few days later the user said it would not boot. Stuck on top left cursor after the initial round Mint logo. I d...

Ah, I was missing photoprint, and had not noticed that Pix could print multiple images. Thanks for the clue!absque fenestris wrote: ⤴Sat Nov 14, 2020 8:53 pm Once you've played around with Pix a bit, the settings aren't complicated.

Re: Touchscreen not working - Mint 20 Cinnamon - Lenovo ideapad Flex 5
Unfortunately I can't help. I'm working on the same laptop (Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5, 15" touchscreen). Mint 20, MATE. No touchscreen activity. Device reports very similar to the above. Have not been able to find any mention of "touchscreen" lsusb, lspci, lshw. Touch screen works in Wind...

Re: Timeshift does not run from mintmenu
Same here. Upgrade from 19.2 to 19.3, MATE. Timeshift runs from the panel or desktop, but not from Mint Menu. Same problem for Software Sources. Edit (31 Mar 2020): I tried again today and Timeshift and Software Sources now do work from the Menu. (Release Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia 64-bit; Kernel Linux ...

Re: [SOLVED] Google repository changed name won't update anymore
The manual fix: sudo apt update method worked for me. Mint 19, MATE. However, with the automated update process in Mint 19 now, I have not been running the resident Update Manage to see any errors (the red "X"). And it appears that when this error happens, no automatic updates happen. When...

Re: Mint 19: What happens if system is shutdown during auto-update?
I would not have thought a normal shutdown should cause file system corruption, even if programs are running. From what I've been able to ascertain, the computer has been shutdown properly. RAM and hard drive tests are ok. I've subsequently tested it myself and have not been able to make it fail, ev...

Mint 19: What happens if system is shutdown during auto-update? [SOLVED]
Now that Mint 19 incorporates Timeshift which supposedly allows more confident use of auto-updates, and given that the user does not know when those updates may occur, what happens if the user shuts down the system while an update is running? Are updates completed before finally shutting down (which...

Re: Cannot find .thunderbird file - Mint 17 Qiana
Start Thunderbird. Do Edit|Account Settings. Click on "Server Settings" for the account in the left section. On the right section, towards the bottom you should see an entry for "Local directory:". That should indicate where your Thunderbird files are stored.

Timeshift|Menu|View TimeShift Logs fails
I have both Linux Mint 18.3 and 19 (MATE, 64 bit) with Timeshift installed (two different computers). For both machines, when I do Timeshift|Menu|View TimeShift Logs the Audacious program appears (Audacious is installed). The TimeShift logs are in /var/log/timeshift and are individually readable usi...

Re: Should Timeshift snapshots be excluded from mlocate's update process? [SOLVED]
Thanks for the replies. I've excluded
timeshift
and the database is definitely smaller, and the update process runs for less time. No apparent problems. Marked it as solved.- Mon Jul 23, 2018 9:11 pm

Should Timeshift snapshots be excluded from mlocate's update process? [SOLVED]
As I understand it, mlocate keeps the database /var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db as an index to allow the system to find files. Is there any point in the Timeshift snapshots being indexed? In other words, should the timeshift directory be included in the PRUNEPATHS line in /etc/updatedb.conf to exclude it...
