Try to download the two sha256sum files from that link again...in particular if you didn't save them via right click > save as...
Thank you! This saved me continued frustration... :)

Re: Problems Following 19.1 Install

Thanks for everyone's feedback and ideas. Unfortunately, I haven't made any progress getting a successful Mint install on this machine - maybe it's time to retire it. If I pick this up again and anything changes, I'll post an update. Thanks, again.

Re: Problems Following 19.1 Install

I'm going to create USB media with different hardware and then try all the different USB ports on this machine and see what happens. I tried this and thought I was making progress, but no. After booting from USB I ran the integrity check and got no errors and then the install process completed with...

Re: Problems Following 19.1 Install

At DVD boot the marching dots run here for 80”, then some text (tty boot) and black screen for 55”, cursor, 15” to desktop. Yeah, I let it sit there several times for 10-15 minutes just in case it was being really, really slow. No joy. AFAIK the 518 was originally a 32bit Vista model? Tried Mint 32...

Re: Problems Following 19.1 Install

I burned the ISO to DVD and gave it a try. This time, the integrity check completed with zero errors. On boot, unfortunately, it still stalls out at the "lm" logo with the marching dots. I'm going to create USB media with different hardware and then try all the different USB ports on this machine an...

Re: Problems Following 19.1 Install

If this is happening on 18.1 as well, then I'm starting to suspect a hardware problem. Me, too... :( You can run GParted to completely destroy all of the existing partitions. If I can get it to boot to the live USB, I'll give that a try. Does it give you the option to format? Or should that not rea...

Re: Problems Following 19.1 Install

I'd first try the "Integrity check" from the live grub menu. I think I remember to read from a similar issue in the forums (@gm10 gave the hint to check the install media ?). I had tried that and it ends saying "errors in 1 file" but there's no guidance that I could see with regard to what error wa...

Re: Problems Following 19.1 Install

I was unable to get this machine rebooted in the condition it was when I started this thread. Since then, I've re-installed 19.1 multiple times (curiously without the trouble I had before) but haven't been able to get to a stable point. The install seems to work okay, but as soon as I do just about ...

You said you installed a bunch of updates, but you're still booting with the default kernel. Do you see any errors in dmesg?
If you're referring to the inxi output, that was taken when booted from USB. The next time I get it to boot up, I'll run inxi again along with dmesg.

Problems Following 19.1 Install

I have an old desktop PC that had been running Mint 18.1/Windows 10 in dual-boot with no problems that I was aware of, but I decided to get rid of Win10 altogether and move to the latest Mint release. The 19.1 Cinnamon install eventually completed although it took several attempts following multiple...

I've found the solution here: https://manjaro.org!
No snark intended, but are you saying your solution to your Mint install/boot issue was to install a different OS?

Re: Killer E2500 Ethernet Not Recognized

...Looking now for a way to check the disk from a bootable USB. I found a DOS-based Western Digital utility I had already saved on an old USB drive. A couple of runs through various diags found no errors. I'll take this issue to another forum so as not to hijack this thread anymore than I already h...

Re: Killer E2500 Ethernet Not Recognized

I haven't been able to boot to a stable condition since I tried bringing this machine up on an older kernel several days ago. I tried to re-install Mint from USB choosing to erase the HDD, but the install crashes repeatedly -- at different points during the install process -- after warning of I/O er...

Re: Killer E2500 Ethernet Not Recognized

You should be able to use the grub menu after a reboot, scroll to advanced options then pick an older kernel from the list to boot to... Unfortunately, booting to any of the older kernels doesn't work -- it gets as far as the login screen and then freezes. Sometimes a dialogue box pops up saying th...

Re: Killer E2500 Ethernet Not Recognized

I have a similar problem in that my desktop's wired connection wasn't recognized after a routine shutdown/restart. It had been humming along just fine for several weeks before I shut it down to change the battery in the UPS. After the restart, I found that the wired connection had disappeared. Since...
