Re: Adobe Reader

Interesting. Does anyone know (or care) why it stopped working in Mint 18? It's in the "popular applications" section of the most recently released MX 17.1. We'll see, but for now, I'm glad I have the choice. That's the other thing about Linux......choice. To stop working is a good thing with Adobe...

Re: Adobe Reader

It depends on the Linux versions, and there's not 100% consistency. Adobe Reader doesn't work in Mint 18.x but it does in 17.x. Basically it stopped working in 18.x (and other Linux distros like Ubuntu 16.04, which Mint 18 is based on). So it's not surprising to me that it'll work in some other dis...

Re: Adobe Reader

Have you tried completing the forms in your browser window - both Firefox and Chrome have very good inbuilt pdf support. If you do manage to get reader 9.5.5 working be aware it dates from 2013 and is likely riddled with security vulnerabilities - I wouldn't use it as a daily-driver PDF reader. I d...

Adobe Reader

Now that tax season in the USA is over, this may not be a hot topic until the beginning of 2019. It seems like at the beginning of each year, many of us who have to fill out auto-fill / calculating pdf state tax forms are looking for a way to do this on our Linux machines. Suggestions like Wine, Mas...

Re: Foxit Reader

I was able to do it by getting to any pdf file trough the file manager (Nemo), then right-click any pdf file and go to "properties". Then go to the tab "Open With". From there you can pick the application of your choice and make it the default.

Cheers

Re: Youtube\Downloader or Music Downloader ??

I like using youtube-dl, which is available through the linux mint software manager. You have to use it through the command line interface (terminal). First, copy the url of the video you want to download, then type the command: youtube-dl -F {video URL} Don't type the brackets. That is just to indi...

Re: What are your top tips for a Newbie?

From fellow newbie, In searching of this and other sources of help on the internet, a lot of great advise will come in the form of suggested command lines to copy and paste into terminal. I got to know the shortcut to terminal pretty fast (alt-ctrl-t). One of the first things I found was that to pas...

Thank you!

A couple of years ago I brought my wife's Samsung laptop that was on an old M$ Vista back from the dead and running better than new on Linux Mint Cinnamon. Since then, I've given it to my mother and bought a refurbished Dell Latitude E6430 for myself (intel i5 with a SSD) for the express purpose of ...
