Re: TP-Link ac600 driver

If your house is like my house you may find that a really long wire (Ethernet cable) is worth having around. They aren't that expensive. My router is upstairs, and I have other computers downstairs, and I sometimes run a long Ethernet cable to make things work reliably on the downstairs systems. The...

Re: Does installing Mint void my Dell warranty?

If you don't get the audio jack fixed, and you don't already have a USB-Audio adapter, I got one of these and it works fine on my Dell Latitude (LM 19.3 Cinnamon) : https://plugable.com/products/usb-audio/ Didn't have to do any config changes, just plugged it in and selected it in the sound setting...

Re: Does installing Mint void my Dell warranty?

Folks, Thanks very much for the info and the prompt response. My concerns were motivated by the point mentioned by Shultz , and I guess I was wondering if anyone had not been able to use a Dell warranty to get hardware repaired after installing Mint. I'm aware that Dell sells systems running Ubuntu,...

Does installing Mint void my Dell warranty?

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop that I'd like to install Mint on. I know how to do this, and I've done it on a couple of other systems, which are long out of warranty, but the laptop is new and still under warranty. My problem is that the laptop has a minor hardware problem - the audio jack doesn't wo...

Re: Zoom video conference on multiple screens

I found a spare HDMI cable and connected my laptop to the TV, and after figuring out how to make the TV show that cable's input, I was able to make the screen on the laptop appear on the TV. It displays a much larger version of what's on the laptop screen, and makes people much more visable. Very ni...

Re: Cannot reach Linux Mint Forums from Verizon network

I'm on Verizon Fios, and I went for three days thinking it was my router that was the problem. During one of my conversations with Verizon, the tech wanted me to reset my router to factory defaults, and I refused, as I didn't want to go through the hassle of restoring my hidden network and passwords...

Re: Cannot reach Linux Mint Forums from Verizon network

I hope that before someone changes the title to [Solved], we get some explanation of what happened and how it was 'solved'. Was it our problem or only Verizons? I'm glad to see that we have an easy workaround (use VPN or the Tor browser), but people who haven't read this won't know that, and won't b...

Re: Cannot reach Linux Mint Forums from Verizon network

I'm in New Jersey, my ISP is Verzion Fios, and I haven't been able to access the forum or the blogs for the last couple of days. Tried several machines with different systems, and then my cell phone over Verizon's local cell network to no avail. Tried calling Verizon, but they finally hung up on me ...

Zoom video conference on multiple screens

Is it possible to use Zoom Video Conferencing on multiple monitors? I'm looking for a way to get more people on the screen by using multiple monitors while in Gallery View. I have only one montor at the moment, so I have no way to test this, but if it's possible and someone knows how to do it, I mig...

Re: [SOLVED] Reading Apple PowerPC Filesystem?

Very interesting! I've pulled drives out of old systems and put them back into other computers running the same operating system, but exactly how do you go about connecting a bare drive to a USB port?

Re: Zoom: video webcam freezes after a few minutes

We've been having trouble with Zoom all morning. It works for a while and then quits. Sometimes it won't connect to a meeting. I suspect that the problem might be on their end.

Re: Hum filtering program

Audacity is a super piece of software that can do almost anything to a sound file. However, as far as I know, it works on a file, not a stream. So if by 'real time' you want something which will filter out a 50 cycle hum from something that you're listening to, you don't want audacity, you want some...

Re: How to shrink window size in 19.3

Aha!!! USER ERROR!!! My fault, but I'd like to explain. Many thanks to Pierre & MrEen, you are both absolutely correct and I was mistaken. Here's what happened. My laptop is used almost exclusively for a music player. It's an old Toshiba Notebook and I haven't bothered to connect a mouse to it, beca...

Re: How to shrink window size in 19.3

Grabbing the window with Alt key works fine on my Cinnamon desktop, but doesn't work at all on my Xfce laptop. I tried both Alt keys, to see if the left one acted any differently than the right one, but neither one does anything. The only way to grab the window and move it is to click and drag on th...

Re: How to shrink window size in 19.3

Well, now I've done it. Completely shot my self in the foot. After getting no replies in ten days, I went back to trying to fix the problem myself. Big mistake. I found a setting I could change in 'Appearance' called scale setting. It was set to 1x. I thought, Aha! this will change the scale of the ...

Re: Xfce on an ASUS Atom N455

I have an old Toshiba Notebook model NB505 that appears to have an Intel Atom N455 CPU. It came with windows 'Starter'. I've been running Mint 17 on it for a couple of years without problems. I upgraded to 19 a couple of months after it came out and recently I bumped it up to 19.3. As Hoser Rob ment...

[SOLVED] How to shrink window size in 19.3

Thanks for providing the light weight version of Mint for those of us with older hardware. I'm running XFCE on an old laptop (Toshiba Notebook 505) and I've successfully upgraded it from 19.2 to 19.3. I have a couple of questions. The upgrade went fine, but I lost the solid desktop color that I had ...
