Re: Right click too fast

I have the same problem. I find that adjusting the sensitivity with the custom settings helps, but doesn't entirely solve the problem. When I'm forced to use the right click, I either try it a whole bunch of times, or sometimes just right click and hold the button down, which usually keeps the menu ...

Re: how to add "scroll buttons" or "scroll arrows" to Office and Firefox

Wow! Amazing. Seems to have added 'scroll buttons' to everything that has a scroll bar? I tried the second method, since I'm running 19, and it worked like a charm. Since this is a tutorial, could you also explain what GTK is? I gather that it's a piece of software that does things to things running...

Re: [SOLVED] Invoking terminal session with extended environment

I'm somewhat taken aback by the reactions of some folks here. I appreciate help, but I don't like being bashed. This is a forum for Newbies. I agree. I read this forum to learn things, and one of the things I've learned is that sometimes you need a thick skin to survive the reactions of some people...

Re: Invoking terminal session with extended environment

I'm far from a guru, but I'd like to ask a question just to see if I understand what you're looking for. You're comparing lists of environment variables that are found when you invoke the terminal in different ways. It seems to me that you have listed the environment variables that are set in five d...

Re: Can't see usb drive

I did notice the comments about "fake flash" in other topics while I was looking to see if anyone else had the same problem. These were small capacity units that I bought to use as "give aways". Copied some music on one, checked to make sure that the music played OK, and gave it away. I'm sure it wa...

Re: Can't see usb drive

Bought them quite a while ago, used one of them with no problems, and put the other two on the shelf, until today. Got them from Amazon, I think, don't remember exactly. They were cheap for the going rate (considering that there were three in the package), so I only got partially hosed. The moral to...

Re: Can't see usb drive

I also tried the "USB Stick Formatter", but it can't see the device, and you can't type anything into the box for the device name.

I also tried installing GParted, but it did not provide any new information, so I removed it.

Re: Can't see usb drive

Thanks. I stuck the device into the usb port, and ran "dmesg | tail -20" (Neat trick to look at only the last 20 lines!). I got this (the interesting part) : [22817.561851] usb 2-2: new high-speed USB device number 10 using ehci-pci [22817.721702] usb 2-2: New USB device found, idVendor=05e3, idProd...

[Solved] Can't see usb drive

When I insert a usb memory stick, I hear a beep, but nothing else happens. I bought three of these devices, and the first one worked as expected, with the drive popping up on my desktop and I could open it, and copy stuff back and forth without any problem. The other two devices give a beep when ins...

Re: Sudden Thunderbird 52.8.0 Problem

I had that problem when I exchanged emails with a friend who was using a Mac. The fix was to change something in the config file that is accessible in edit > preferences > advanced tab, down at the bottom of the page. Unfortunately I don't remember what the parameter was that needed changing. Sorry.

Re: Strange background 'interference'

I guess that there is a limit on the size of postings. To make a screenshot (or any picture file) smaller, open it with gThumb, which you should find in your menu, and look for the icon that looks like a double headed arrow under "Format" on the right hand side. Click on that, change the size (make ...

And if you're not sure whether you need it or not, go ahead and uninstall it, you can always re-install it if you discover you need it.

Thanks for all the replies. Very helpful. It took a while, but I'm now running 19.1 and I've been able to solve the issues that I ran into with the help of the Forum.

Re: LIbreOffice Base - The driver class 'org.hsqldb.jdbc' could not be loaded.

Aha! Many thanks. Setting the class path (which is a button inside the 'Advanced' tab in LibreOffice Options) to /usr/lib/libreoffice/program/classes/ hsqldb.jar did the trick. My database is now working.

Thanks for the info.

Since this is my only database, I guess I can muck about with impunity :?

Re: LIbreOffice Base - The driver class 'org.hsqldb.jdbc' could not be loaded.

Do I want that package, or perhaps "libreoffice-base-drivers" - which does not appear to be installed?

Edit: Sorry, Synaptic didn't have it starred, so I thought it wasn't there. But when I looked in Software Manager, it says it is installed.

Re: LIbreOffice Base - The driver class 'org.hsqldb.jdbc' could not be loaded.

It responded:

libreoffice-sdbc-hsqldb is already the newest version (1:6.0.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.6).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

which I gather means that it is already installed.

[Solved] LIbreOffice Base - The driver class 'org.hsqldb.jdbc' could not be loaded.

I've upgraded from 17.3 to 19.1 and I find I'm working with LibreOffice 5 instead of 4. I did a clean install, after backing all my documents up. Now I have a database that will not work, and when I open it and click on Tables, it tells me that "The driver class 'org.hsqldb.jdbc' could not be loaded...

Re: Wine doesn't seem to be using PATH

Sorry, but I guess I wasn't very clear. The games work, and I can play them, it's just that I have to put the DLL files into the same folder with them to make them function. When they're only in the C:/windows/system32 folder (which appears to be on the Windows path) they don't work. I'm wondering i...
