Well... I followed the suggestion from Kadaitcha Man because of his level of user, supposing that a senior member was pretty sure about what he was saying.
The problem is that I'm only a demigod.
Thank you demigod kad-eye-cha

Re: Are my 12GB of RAM not in use?

There was never a real need to remove RAM and you had plenty. I have 16 GB and never reach above 6 GB, at least with day-to-day tasks. Now with 8 you have of course less memory and will see a greater impact. Your problem was never a problem in the first place. ;) Well... I followed the suggestion f...

Re: Are my 12GB of RAM not in use?

That's why I love the opensource world! Just so you're aware, mixing a 4GB stick with an 8GB stick will undoubtedly slow your machine down if it has dual or more channels of RAM. You would be better off with just one 8GB stick, or if your machine supports 16GB, then two 8GB sticks with matched spee...

Re: Are my 12GB of RAM not in use?

As we said your RAM and swap are fine. If we want we can troubleshoot the crashing. You can describe what it is. Okay. Sorry but I think I misexpressed myself or I was misunderstood (BTW I'm from Brazil my English is not perfect). But to clear that question. I did not say my laptop was freezing. I'...

Re: Are my 12GB of RAM not in use?

Your laptop is fine, as per mr_raider's post. That is why I asked to see the output of top because it shows the actual usage pattern of your RAM. To understand it better, read this: https://www.linuxatemyram.com/ Thanks for the help. When I installed Mint for the fist time (I think it was Sara. Nev...

Re: Are my 12GB of RAM not in use?

The system detects the RAM okay, and crucially you have 64-bit kernels installed. I am not sure why the laptop crashes when more than 4 GB are used other than you may or may not have a dodgy 8GB module. Memtest+ in compatibility mode to test the 8GB module with the 4GB one removed would highlight a...

I think you need to pair up the 8GB stick. Have you tried removing the 4GB stick and just trying the 8GB one?
I will do that to see what I get.

Thanks

Are my 12GB of RAM not in use?

Hi everyone. Sorry for the newbie question. I have a simple LeNovo G40-70 laptop. It comes with 4GB of RAM. Then I bought an extra 8GB to add to it. It always worked fine for me. Running both Linux and Windows for three years. Now that I've just upgrade to Mint 20 I've set a Memory usage desklet and...

Re: Can't get an image preview at file manager

You have risen a two-year-old thread :D :D

I'm running Mint 20 and I've tried this Dolphin File Manager and I get this:

Code: Select all

Package 'kde-runtime' has no installation candidate
E: Unable to locate package kffmpegthumbnailer
Is it because is not available for Ulyana?

Re: Mouse misbehaving in right click

Well... the opensource world also brought you the opaqueness of the dconf database. But good to know it works :) There is something that I think I should share here: After resetting dconf-database , despite all the customization that I've had to set again, my machine is incredibly faster . After Tr...

Thank you smurphos. But I solved the problem with the help of our friend rene

Re: Mouse misbehaving in right click

Okay, call me a dumb. I tried using dconf-editor but I really had no idea of what should I be looking for. Don't worry; that's not you being dumb, that's dconf being dumb. Whoever at one point thought it was a good idea needs to.... be fired from RedHat, because I'm fairly sure that's where he or s...

Re: Mouse misbehaving in right click

If you delete the ~/.config/dconf/user database you will loose many per-user settings, not all. dconf is very poorly specified as to what it does and what it does not contain; it's basically any specific program / piece of software's choice what to store in the database and what to use configuratio...

Re: Mouse misbehaving in right click

Was sort of to be expected, yes; the thing probably mucked around in the dconf database (a settings system reminiscent of the Windows registry, but even worse than that). The subtle option is scrounging around the database with e.g. dconf-editor and looking for something related. The less subtle on...

Re: Mouse misbehaving in right click

I've no idea what that "Touchpad Indicator" thing did and as such... if you create another, clean user account for testing, does this happen also on that account? I'd test by rebooting the system and logging in to the new account directly, i.e., making sure there's no lingering hardware configurati...

Re: Mouse misbehaving in right click

USB 4.0? In any case, also, is this happening with a mouse on a device with also a touchpad? It is a LeNovo G-40 laptop. Using a wired mouse. The problem is the same in any USB port (not 4.0) because laptop is 2015. I think is 3.0. I tried disabling the touchpad in mouse/touchpad options. I think i...
