Paltalk, how to use on Mint, guidance please?

The topic about covers the question. How can I use Paltalk chats somehow on Linux Mint? I've contacted their support line before, but as I recall the reply was along the lines of they don't support Linux right now, but they may consider it in the future. Haven't heard from them again since with any ...

Oh, that's kind of a bummer, then. Thanks for the info!

Not Tetris 2 (Flatpak), 1 player stack type game failure

Something seems amiss in the Not Tetris 2 Flatpak. After starting the program, I choose the one player (1PLY) option, and hit enter. Then on the next screen I select STACK as the game type, and as soon as I hit enter, an error appears on a blue background. The background music continues playing, but...

Re: [SOLVED] PCI Ethernet card was not working, had to reset BIOS!

Sorry to waste anyone's time who may have been in the process of trying to figure this out for me! Turns out the BIOS configuration had to be reset. Now it's working. A message flashed on screen very briefly during boot. I initially dismissed it, the computer often has some complaint about the ME su...

Re: PCI Ethernet card not working, no driver?

I switched the pnp os setting back to "no". The inxi command only differed in the exact amount of memory and storage used, and cpu speed, which will vary anyway. Other than that ifconfig -a varied, and I'm not sure it's significant or not, so here it is anyway. The others came back identic...

[SOLVED] PCI Ethernet card was not working, had to reset BIOS!

First some tldr: This kind of carries on from another topic, but is about another device, so I hope I haven't erred in making it a new topic. After a recent onboard ethernet failure, I looked in my heap of old hardware, and found a PCI ethernet card. It's just 10/100 instead of gigabit, but good eno...

Re: Ethernet port, is it dead?

My motherboard has a couple of pci-e x1 slots available, and a regular pci slot, and my video card occupies the pci-e x16 slot.

Any reasons I should go with one sort of slot instead of the other for an ethernet card, is one a better choice?

Thanks for all your help.

Re: Ethernet port, is it dead?

I've tried a different port on the router, and a couple different cords, but it's not coming to life for me. I just tried a suggestion from over on superuser https://superuser.com/a/244774 , admittedly for a different ethernet chip and different motherboard, that helped at least that one person in t...

Ethernet port, is it dead?

The ethernet port on my motherboard seems not to be working. It had previously worked, but that's been a few days ago. I had to replace a failed modem recently, which connected to it. I'm not sure how to determine if the ethernet port was taken out by that modem failure, or if there's something else...

Hibernate inconsistent memory map detected!

Instead of coming out of hibernation, my system appeared to have just straight booted up today, even though I was sure I hibernated it yesterday. I opened up the log viewer, and right after I opened it it seemed to show something relevant. Under the important heading the log said: 16:18:35 lightdm: ...

Re: xed crashed and did a core dump, any way to get text out of it?

Oh it caught my existing files okay with that, since I already set it to autosave once every 20 minutes. Sadly, it didn't help with the couple of new unsaved documents. :( For my future use, is there perhaps a similar text editor that will save those too? Maybe with hidden files or in a temp directo...

xed crashed and did a core dump, any way to get text out of it?

Is there a way, when xed crashes and does a core dump, to use a debugger or something to get at a semblance of the texts that it had in memory at the time? After unzipping it, I've looked at the dump with ghex, and was able to find some snippets I know are in it, but they're interspersed with other ...

MAME, stuck in full screen mode, and mouse cursor stuck on its monitor, how to toggle on/off?

Recently installed MAME, and I'm aggravated already before even really getting started. Right off the bat, I can't move my mouse cursor to my other monitor to do other things, and I cannot see how to get it out of full screen mode either. How do I exit full screen mode? How do I toggle on/off the fe...

Re: It keeps forgetting that I set the second monitor as primary monitor.

I have it set to the left monitor as the primary one as I wanted it, now, so I guess it's fixed. I can't say I understand why it works, nor why it broke in the first place, but here we are. The idea of using something other than the Nvidia settings app led me to try a couple of different ways of cha...

[SOLVED] It keeps forgetting that I set the second monitor as primary monitor.

I have an Nvidia GeForce GT 1030, with a couple of monitors attached to it. I normally have my second monitor on my left set as the primary monitor. I'm not sure what's up lately, but I thought it might be due to changing my driver to the 530 driver, so I switched back to the 470 driver, and it's st...

Re: SMPlayer CPU usage high

Well, then I just don't get it. :? Whether hardware decoding is set to none, or to auto, or vdpau, vaapi, or cuda, it doesn't seem to matter. The CPU usage stays similar. Looking in the Graphics Card Information, in the NVIDIA X Server Settings, it doesn't seem to impact the GPU Utilization or Used ...

Re: SMPlayer CPU usage high

I've tried toggling some things on and off, like direct rendering, double buffering, draw video using slices, etc, but there doesn't seem to be much effect whichever way they're set. Trying none, auto, cuda, and whatever else I tried, for the hardware decoding, in the performance category, didn't se...

SMPlayer CPU usage high

I've been using SMPlayer for a while now, to watch videos I've recorded on my DTV converter box. Usually works okay, but the CPU usage is always pretty high, and sometimes the audio and video get a bit out of sync. Looking in htop while it's playing a video, the mpv process is often around 40-70 per...
