Re: Monthly News – June 2019

Coz some of us can't stand Firefox and don't like Mozilla much either - their attitude to fixing bugs sucks, and they can't make any of their apps work properly with GTK themes. Plus if Canonical's Chromium as snap only experiment works out I bet Firefox will be on the list at some point. Some of u...

Re: Monthly News – June 2019

I wondered what was different about chromium.... it don't really matter to me, it is just a 'backup browser' used to test links. I only use Firefox. Ditto—don't really get why folk are making a fuss about Chromium of all things. If it were Firefox or something, then I'd be having a big tantrum. Chr...

Which one would phone home more, Edge or Chrome? All I ever use I.E or Edge for is to download Firefox.
Exactly! I don't get how people are bashing on Edge but admit to using Chrome. They're equally as bad. :?

Distrowatch stats for LM?

I looked back on distrowatch after a bit of a hiatus and came to find LM was taken down from spot #1 on that homepage stat chart. Astonished to find this, I recalled still seeing LM on top not that long ago. I went to the waybackmachine, got myself a looky and it seems that last year was somehow the...

Re: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

As I use LM19.1 Mate this probably doesn't apply to me. However, here are my comments, for what they are worth. I have tried all the current docks (launchers) to give me a visible representation of programs and, although I feel they have their purpose, they are just not for me. - invariably too muc...

Re: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

This is exactly the sort of user interface paradigm that Cinnamon is deliberately designed to avoid. Basically, it's a tablet-optimized UI bring grafted onto a desktop computer UI. As others here have previously said, if you want that, go use Gnome 3.x. I think that line of thinking would justify o...

Re: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

What is this:
cinnamon
gtk windows
merge appsys and cmenus
ditch docinfo
I found that under LM 19.2 section. By chance, would they have anything to do with those search providers?

It's not unusual I think. I don't have desktop icons either.

Re: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

It's not something that I personally would use (seems like it would add clutter to my desktop), but I'm all for diversity and choice and so if it was an option that people could turn on and off then I don't see the harm in it (although there are other features I'd prefer to see implemented first). ...

Re: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

Subject: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed? I can't comment on what others might think but for me, if I wanted something like that I would install the Gnome desktop or even an earlier iteration of Windwoes 10; Noting that the later versions of Windwoes 10 have moved away from this controversia...

Re: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

The appeal of Cinnamon for me is the lack of clutter. I see nothing on screen except what I consciously put there, yet everything I want access to is readily accessible via menus. I would like to think that's true for apps more than anything. I can't see that as true for cases like files. One can e...

Re: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

It might be ok for those who use a tablet, but for the majority of desktop users, this type of interface was/is an unmitigated disaster. Windwoes 8, anyone? M$ was smart enough to kill that interface in double quick time. I'm actually one of the biggest criticizers of Windows 8's "one size fits all...

Re: Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

I don't see any advantages. I see how it's different, but not how it's easier or more intuitive. Maybe I'm missing something? I consider it mainly intuitive in the sense that when someone sees only a search box, like in Albert's case, they should automatically know how to use it. I suppose finding ...

Would a launcher like DASH be welcomed?

Hello, I've already put up a post in the suggestions forum and have even decided to create an idea on community.linuxmint but before I do, I was wondering what others would think of introducing a launcher into Cinnamon. For those not aware, I'm referring to a "launcher" like Unity/Gnome DASH Launche...

Re: Why did you decide to install Linux Mint??

I plan to install Linux Mint because it serves the purposes of what I need in a lightweight alternative to Windows, and more importantly, LM out-of-the-box comes out really nicely with Cinnamon in that it's user-friendly. I am in no way saying LM is trying to be Windows, which it isn't. TrinityDE de...
