Re: LDME4 (64 bit) | Xsession: unable to launch

Without knowing what you've killed in detail, I guess the best option would be to do a 'sudo apt install (or apt reinstall) cinnamon-desktop-environment'.

Re: Chromium 86

Regarding the laggy menus, I have been fiddling with some chrome flags and it appears that the laggy mouse selection in the bookmarks or settings menu gets better if I disable the 'Touch UI Layout'.
It isn't as snappy as under IceWM, but faster than with that flag enabled.

Re: Chromium 86

Yes, I had the Debian repo version of Chromium installed and I dont think I 'apt-remove'd it prior to installation.

Re: Chromium 86

Besides that, I already lost connection to all webpages in Chromium twice and had to restart the browser, while my network connection keeps going and my other laptop keeps on working (with Firefox)
Seems to me this is a shaky build.

Laptop is Lenovo T460s.
When I run youtube in both chrome and youtube it eats all CPU: all cores around 100%.
Chrome has Hardware Acceleration enabled.
Any ideas if I need to check any codecs?
You might check if you have the va-driver installed
'sudo apt install i965-va-driver'

Re: No hardware acceleration in Youtube for both Chrome and Firefox

LMDE and Linux Mint are both running Xorg and not Wayland. So you can just about forget about hardware acceleration in the browser. Do you have any verifiable evidence to support that claim? Yep, you're right. Seems that since July the VA-API finally works with X11 too. I have missed that info.

Re: Chromium 86

I highly doubt that, as I don't see any lag with IceWM and I dont experience any other menu lags in Cinnamon besides the noted one.

Re: Chromium 86

I thought, I had, but obviously I picked the wrong entry. This laggy menu behaviour is definitely a Cinnamon/Gnome related problem, because when I switch to IceWM, the dropdown menus of Chromium 86 work fluently. I remember having reported laggy menu behaviour in the Cinnamon app/file chooser too, q...

Chromium 86

The settings and bookmarks dropdown menus are very slow to update upon mouse selection.
Trying to select an entry from the list is a pita.

Re: (yet another) LMDE doesn't connect to network

Do a 'sudo apt reinstall dkms' and hopefully it pulls the build-essential package with it.
Otherwise you will have to ' sudo apt install build-essential' to get it and any further required packages.
Without these packages the wl kernel module can't be built.

Re: USB Wifi Adapter not working with Mint LDME 4

Your adapter is detected and working but the network connection is down, see:
IF: wlp4s0 state: down mac: <filter>

Could be due to Bluetooth interfering.
Pls. run 'rfkill list all' and post the output.

Re: (yet another) LMDE doesn't connect to network

Do not download and install packages from a website, unless you know what you are into.
Run 'sudo apt install broadcom-sta-dkms' to get it installed from the Debian non-free repository.

Re: (yet another) LMDE doesn't connect to network

For the Broadcom 43xx install 'broadcom-sta-dkms' from the non-free repository to have the wl kernel module built, see:
https://packages.debian.org/buster/broadcom-sta-dkms

P.S.
you'll probably need to install the dkms package first, if it isn't already installed.

Re: Compile from source

Oh, I just noticed that it is a configure.ac which means it is creates by autoconf (autotools).
Install it running automake, though I doubt it will compile, due to the code being 13 years old on github.

Re: Compile from source

Oops, that should have 'dpkg --add-architecture...' as you correctly noted.
Why you still can't run the clock is beyond me though.

Re: Compile from source

Do a 'sudo apt --add-architecture i386' and then try to install the clock plugin again.
