Re: Backported Kernel

Currently I'm fine with my 9th gen intel system and LMDE 4 with a custom-built 5.10 kernel.
WIll probably switch to AMD Ryzen 5000 mobile series machine once the Zen 3 systems become available and then LMDE 4/Debian 10 will have to go.
I just hope that LMDE 5 becomes an option by then.

Re: Backported Kernel

I'll just wait and see if LMDE moves to Bullseye in any forseable future, which I think it will but I sure don't know when.
Otherwise I'll migrate back to Debian.

Re: Backported Kernel

If you have the linux-image-amd64 meta package installed, then an apt full-upgrade will pull the latest kernel from the backports repo too.

P.S.:
besides using the kernel image from the backport repo you should also upgrade to the latest firmware-linux and firmware-linux-nonfree packages there.

Re: Backported Kernel

Since kernel 5.10 is the standard LTS kernel of Debian 11 (aka. Bullseye), I would suppose that backports of that kernel to the Debian 10 repo will be quite frequent, so personally I would give that a try.

Re: Weird cinnamon desktop behaviour with gkrellm

Hello mods, can you pls. move this to the LMDE forum where it should have been going to.
Thank you.

P.S.
and I very much hate that when I log into the forum being in the LMDE forums and will end up in the MInt forum.
Bad design.

Weird cinnamon desktop behaviour with gkrellm

I can't seem to be able to drag the GKrellM system monitor window to the right side of the cinnamon desktop. The window disappears after about 80% of the way. If I drag it slowly to that invisible border, then parts of the window start flashing on and off as if they can'T be refreshed properly past ...

Huh, I wasn't aware that my system was not updated to LMDE4 just by itself. This is rolling distribution, or not… I'll do the upgrade ASAP. :( Perhaps within days, I like to have the disks backups.
No, neither Debian, Ubuntu or Mint are rolling releases.

Re: New kernel freezes my laptop

LMDE 3 has reached EOL on July 1st. 2020 and will not receive any bug fixes or security updates, while the repos are still up.
You either have to migrate to LMDE 4 or live with the issues.

Good news, truely.
I am considering going back to Debian anyhow, as Mint seems to be stuck with Xorg/Xwayland.

Re: LMDE 5

I wonder if there will be an LMDE 5 ever since the package manager for CInnamon on Debian has given up?

Did you perhaps simply forgot to do an 'apt update' after you've added the wine repo?

Re: [❌ NOT solved] Linux Mint installation and UEFI: "no bootable device"

Partition: ID-1: / size: 1.88 GiB used: 12.8 MiB (0.7%) fs: overlay source: ERR-102 Seems to me that the installer botched up the job, as you only got a 1.88 GiB size partition on you hard drive, not using the full 298 GiB. I assume the 2 GiB partitions on sdb/sdc are usb sticks. Best is to redo fro...

Re: Openbox broken

Nah, too much of a hassle to fiddle with python path commands.
Mine points to python-3.7.3 because I need that for other packages.
Going back to god old fluxbox, but thanks for your input anyways.

Re: Openbox broken

If the path should have been /usr/bin/obmenu then the openbox package has been build with a wrong path name.

Output from apt content openbox:
/usr
/usr/bin
/usr/bin/gdm-control
/usr/bin/obamenu
/usr/bin/obxprop
/usr/bin/openbox
/usr/bin/openbox-session

Openbox broken

Seems that the openbox package in LMDE4 is broken.
When I try to open to the applications menu entry, I receive an error msg telling me that the path '/usr/bin/obamenu' is not valid.

Re: Kernel Updates in LMDE

Debian (and thus LMDE4) is unlike Arch & derviates a jumping release not a rolling one.
So you are stuck with the 'boxed' kernel until the next major release unless you manually install the latest kernel image from the buster-backports repo.

You probably missed some info here.
Mint (or Debian) does not support Canonical's snap crap.

Re: Random popping sound, common fix didn't work for me

Try upgrading your firmware-intel-sound from buster-backports and I'd also recommend to get the latest 5.10 kernel from there (linux-image-amd64)
