Re: Erratic Mouse Behavior Returning from Sleep/Hibernation

I have 12GB of RAM, and a 12GB swap. Shouldn't be any issues there. Oh, gotcha. That was the first thing that popped in my head because of how often that comes up as a thing on Debian-based distros. The only other thing that comes to mind are the mouse support utilities down at a lower level, like ...

Re: AMDGPU / Cinnamon fails with two simultaneous users

He is using AMDGPU-PRO not AMDGPU. AMDGPU-PRO is the propiertary driver from AMD website. The AMDGPU is a different one. Oh well that does change everything then. I just got done reading about 4404002 wiki pages and forum posts about AMDGPU and must be blind to the whole -PRO part now. Yes the info...

Re: AMDGPU / Cinnamon fails with two simultaneous users

I just came around here to see how many other people couldn't use Cinnamon with the latest open source AMDGPU drivers. I'm kind of impressed you were able to login into a single session if you are using the latest-latest from git.. He is using AMDGPU-PRO not AMDGPU. AMDGPU-PRO is the propiertary dr...

Re: Erratic Mouse Behavior Returning from Sleep/Hibernation

I know this is a stupid question, but have you ruled out the hardware itself? I do not use a touchpad myself, but I believe this is a fairly common issue on Ubuntu-based distros. Have you tried reinitializing it after suspend just to see if that stops it immediately? If it's freaking out on you, I b...

Re: Still trying to wrap my head around the benefits of LVM

"Without LVM you need to unlock it a few times" Not when I tried it using Mint 17. Systemd will try to apply a passphrase it already has on each encrypted partition it is asked to mount. So you can have independent GPT partitions encrypted with different master keys and the same passphrase to unloc...

Still trying to wrap my head around the benefits of LVM

I feel kind of silly considering I have now done numerous LVM installs and can even create LVM partition schemes with fdisk and then manually add physical and logical groups, etc. all from the command line (thank you numerous Arch VM installs), but I am sitting here right now after having just done ...

Re: [SOLVED] Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Glad you got it working. That's the kind of thing that you can't just copypaste commands for and do in 10 minutes. Solving those kinds of things as a newer linux user feels pretty damn good no matter how much experience you have elsewhere. Pretty soon you'll be explaining to Torvalds himself why hi...

Re: Wine, Windows Terminal Services, and Windows programs

Had a look at Crossover today.... While I really didn't expect Quickbooks to actually work, they advertise complete support for MS Office 2010 and 2013... All I can say from my experience is I'd be surprised if Notepad could actually run. What a great big steaming pile of s--t. I think I need more ...

Re: use FTP to share files between computers with different OS

Hi, I am really new to the Linux and am having trouble setting up a way to share files and folder from Computer A which is running Windows 8.1 to Computer B which is running a dual operating system Windows 7 and Linux Mint 18.0. I have tried to accomplish my goal by using several different methods,...

Just wanna mention Checkinstall (or maybe even Alien) for doing manual source compiles. That way you can remove it like a normal Debian package :D

Re: Chrome(ium) or Firefox? Poll.

For anyone concerned about which browser is better at collecting your information, as someone whose father owns an ISP and regularly visits the server room and such, I can tell you the browser doesn't even matter. He's required to store a log of every single thing you do and site you visit , just li...

Re: Chrome(ium) or Firefox? Poll.

I am not surprised by Firefox being so far ahead considering it's installed by default on every mainstream distro I've used, but I gotta give a shout-out to Chromium. With the right extensions and a firejail for it to live in it's a very good browser that I haven't had a single issue with no matter ...

Re: Wake up PC using VNC?

I did a clean install of of the latest version of Cinnamon and installed updates last weekend. I tested VNC (using default settings) before leaving town on Monday and thought I would be good to go. I was able to access my screen from my cell phone from the WAN, etc., now when I attempt to connect i...
