Re: Application .zip install

Am I going through the instructions here and the video that was posted. I watched it all the way to the end and felt that with the very clear explanation Phil was giving it was going to get easier figuring out this java stuff for flashpap. It probably worked great for MInt 19. But it is Oct 2020 and...

Thanks to the help I received here I found the Fractional scaling settings in Display and I have Mint 20 set up to show windows on both displays in a very comfortable scale. Re: [SOLVED] Blender crashes at startup with MInt 20

In order to activate Fractional Scaling, you have to change the User Interface Scaling from Automatic (1x) to one of the other options. Thanks. Yes, I thought the Fractional scaling was grey'd out and hadn't even try'd to change it from Automatic (1x). So when I changed it to Normal on both display...

[SOLVED] Docks for Mint 20 Cinammon - plank

In Mint 19 I was using Docky. I don't see it available in the Software Manager - can't remember if that was the case in 19 and how I got it, but I get the feeling it is not supported for Mint 20, so I installed Plank from the depository. But I can't see any way to configure it. When I installed it a...

Re: Blender crashes at startup with MInt 20

If you open the System Settings>Driver Manager, are you offered any alternative nvidia drivers? nvidia 340.XXX supports your hardware. It is in the ubuntu focal repositories so you should be offered it and it may work better than nouveau with blender. Do not install the server version though or you...

Re: Blender crashes at startup with MInt 20

I am using Mint 20 Cinammon. I don't see an error message when the Blender crashes at startup. It simply opens a Blender window but before filling it with the blender environment it crashes and goes away. steve@snowpea-M4500:~$ inxi -Fxxxrz System: Kernel: 5.4.0-48-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: ...

[SOLVED] Blender crashes at startup with MInt 20

Using Mint 19.3 I've been learning Blender by watching youtube tutorials. I have Blender on the external monitor and youtube in the browser on the smaller screen laptop. I decided to upgrade from 19.3 to 20 so that I could get better control of the resolution on the laptop. Tried out live Mint20 las...

Re: different icon and text sizes on second smaller monitor

I want to test Mint 20 to see if it can solve my dual monitor resolution needs. Can I install and dual boot Mint 19.3 and Mint 20? When I search for dual boot instructions I find lots of dual boot mint 19 and Windows 10 guides but I don't find how to have the two versions of mint installed for dual ...

That might be the Tiling and snapping windows sound that is firing. Just a guess as I don't use Cinnamon.
Oh! yes, it turns out Tiling and snapping windows is exactly what is causing the sound. I overlooked that option. I turned that off and the sound went away. Thanks.

[SOLVED] system sounds in Cinammon

Mint 19.3 Since switching desktops from Mate to Cinammon I've noticed new behavior that when I drag a window to the edge of screen it makes a beep sound when it maximizes. I don't want to hear that beep. I went to Menu > Preferences > Sound > Sounds tab > I have the Maximizing Windows sound turned t...

Re: jack and pulse audio -- maybe Ubuntu Studio is easier to setup?

If you're talking about about downloading some backing tracks, then recording your playing along with those tracks, I'm not certain JACK is even necessary, although it might be for the lower latency possibilities. Actually that is so obvious and it didn't occur to me. I just take the downloaded mp3...

jack and pulse audio -- maybe Ubuntu Studio is easier to setup?

MInt 19.3 Cinammon I want to set up Audacity to capture youtube streaming audio to use it to practice music. I've read and watched tutorials that explain that in order to make the settings in Audacity you have to have qjackctl and pulseaudio and I've downloaded those but I am not figuring out how to...

Re: where's the "make link"?

Think I have the answer. Open up Nemo - Edit - Preference. Open the Context Menu tab. Is Make Link ticked there?? It was not ticked. I have now ticked it and I can now see it when I right click a file or folder. Plus opening up preferences I found a few other useful things to set, like show the ful...

Or easier - just select the folder or file and press CTR/M. Then drag the resultant link to the desktop. yes, that is what I was looking for. Cntrl M. I just never found it in the right click menu, but between Cntrl M while selecting the file or doing a Create a new launcher here where I want the s...
