Re: Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya Mate

Edit main title to "Need Help With Kybd Configuration" because Linux Mint 18.2 Sonya Mate is useful information, it does not describe what you need help with.

Re: [SOLVED] dmesg output question

Laughing for a good while on that one. I see that kernel building is a distant prospect for me. Thank you again.

Referring to The size of the log files in /var/log gets out of hand to clear out about 20GB of repeating errors.

[SOLVED] Did I mention that I appreciate the help?

The Linux community is really the only place to get Linux answers it seems. So thank you for your input. I really am up a creek here. I read in the HP forum you aren't "a real Linux user until you've compiled your own kernel". (Ironic, coming from there.) I was kinda hoping to put that off for later...

Re: [SOLVED] Unable to Get Sound/Audio

You can get System Sounds by navigating through
Sound & Video > Sound > Sound theme

and changing Sound theme from No sounds to anything else in the list.

great Scott!

Re: dmesg output question

I updated the kernel to 4.8.0-32. I am still getting this "error spam" i believe it is called. I don't know how to add things to the kernel command line, and just what to expect. I find there is so much information on this I just spend hours trying to find something relevant and understandable. I do...

Re: where to start troubleshooting shutdown problems

Using the kernel to 4.8.0-32 booted normally and fixed the shutdown problem. Selected Do not use option in Command Center > Driver Manager, rebooted. Sound returned for user with elevated privileges to include mp3, system sounds. System sounds for Desktop user are not selectable and do not work. Sin...

Re: [nearly SOLVED] Unable to Get Sound/Audio

I found Qasmixer and turned everything on, except for the microphones. I could get sound out of Xplayer when it opened as a default for *.mp3 file. But no system sounds and no headphones, so I went to the help menu - then to ALSA Main Page and ran across a link there about How do i check my soundcar...

[SOLVED] dmesg output question

I kept seeing dmesg in troubleshooting posts, and tried to figure out what it does or how to use it. When I enter: dmesg | grep -i usb dmesg | grep -i dma dmesg | grep -i memory nothing happens. When I enter: dmesg | less it outputs hundreds of lines of a really colorful repeating error with PCEi bu...

Re: LinuxMint18.1MATE backup image questions.

EDIT: My hesitancy to disable Secure Boot to "just try and see" if the CD would work forced me to retry the USB route. Why disable a function to enable something that is for me, problematic for so many other reasons? Being also hesitant to use "new" CLI commands in the CloneZilla Live make-a-bootabl...

Re: LinuxMint18.1MATE backup image questions.

I am having fits with this. Downloading CloneZilla won't do any good unless I run it in a LiveUSB environment. So assuming I download CloneZilla in a Live Environment every time I want to create an image, it should run, and then I can make an image of a partition onto a DVD. That is the plan. I don'...
