Re: move disk to new laptop

ran into another issue. This laptop doesn't have room for a second disk.

Is it possible to connect this disk to a usb port and boot from there? Or am I then going to need to reinstall?

Hi, Quick and possibly silly question.. I just got a new laptop. Can I take out the SSD with Mint 18.1 and transfer it to the new machine? Or is this going to lead to all sorts of trouble? Suggestions, tips and links would be appreciated! You shouldn't have any issues. If you are using the default ...

Re: centrino 6235 and 5ghz?

No thanks! I've got channels enough and I'vee got a router transmitting on both bands. All I want to do is set the laptop to use the high frequencies bands, something that's trivially easy in windows. wlp3s0 32 channels in total; available frequencies : Channel 01 : 2.412 GHz Channel 02 : 2.417 GHz ...

Re: centrino 6235 and 5ghz?

It can do 5ghz and I've had this laptop on it on 5ghz with windows.

This is most likely a user issue, i.e. me having no clue what to do to get it to 5ghz.

centrino 6235 and 5ghz?

Sorry, bit of a noob with linux so asking what's probably a very basic question. In the network tool in the GUI I've been able to configure my network and that works but there's no option to select the frequency band and the 2.4ghz band is extremely crowded here. I suspect this is relevant informati...

dual boot mint/windows and time difference

I'm running mint 18.1 64 bit and windows 7 on two different harddisks in my laptop. Only remaining issue I have with this is that after I've used Linux my windows clock is exactly one hour behind. Linux does display the correct time though. i have the impression linux somehow sets my hardware clock ...

Re: where to start troubleshooting shutdown problems

@ wijnands Have you tested the kernel 4.8 to see if this solved the problem ? Upgrade manager (on right taskbar) > View > Linux Kernel > 4.8 > select and install 4.8.0-32 kernel then reboot. Otherwise try : sudo apt update && apt dist-upgrade -y That did it. I've been shy with kernel updates ever s...

where to start troubleshooting shutdown problems

Hi everyone, After about a decade I decided to give linux on the desktop another go. So I grabbed 18.1 cinnamon 64bits and installed it on a second drive in the cdrom bay of my dell lattitude E6540. That all went well except for the fact that it won't shutdown. PRessing the button on the start menu ...
