Re: Do AppImages make deploying malware to Linux easier?
When a Flatpak automatic update borked my KeepassXC a year or so ago, the lead developer (droidmonkey) recommended that I used their Appimage. I tried it & loved the simplicity of it and have been using Appimages ever since. karlchen 's post made me re-assess my usage. I use the following Appima...

Re: how put AppImage in menu
If you like the GUI approach then maybe you'd like Appimagelauncher (from the Software Manager).
It gives you a choice to:
1. run the Appimage once (for trial)
2. to fully integrate the Appimage (including create menu entries)

Re: Hostnames for Samba shares and recent update...?
Yes, SMB1 is apparently less secure, but it's all my old NAS box understands.
In your case, I think you need to hope that altair4 notices this thread.

(Solved) Forum search box usage
My NAS box connected on 19.3 but not on 20.0 so I searched the Mint forums (search used = "nas mint 20") - 693042 matches. No references to "nas" in the first 5 pages - I gave up. So I used the same search parameters on the interwebby thingy using DuckDuckGo. The 3rd hit pointed ...

Re: Suggestions for VLC replacement? (mainly for audio)
Celluloid covers my modest audio needs as well as video - have you checked out the 'hamburger' (3 horizontal lines) in top right corner? It offers 'Playlist' etc. Also if I select various tracks in Nemo, right click & select 'Open with Celluloid' it does exactly that. Must admit that I can't fin...

Re: Flatpaks slow to launch
I use AppImages in preference to Flatpaks or Snaps so can't answer your question directly.
But I have Inkscape v1.0 AppImage and it opens in 4 seconds on my 2008/9 hardware (+Mint 19.3 Cinnamon).

@ Koning Mint
If kernel 5.6.X is the big attraction, then I can report that 5.6.0-050600 works fine with Mint 19.3 Cinnamon.
(I installed 5.6.0 because I wanted to run Wireguard with my VPN)

@Gruppo Sportivo - thanks! When I checked, it was an available option on my PIA v2.0.1 (build 04518) so I installed kernel 5.6.0-050600 to get the kernel module it uses. It seems to connect faster and also seems faster in use - not a very scientific test, more an observation :-) Thanks for the 'head...

E1-Beard-0, I think I have probably gone over 2 months without logging in to the forum at some stage, and I also use KeepassXC to log into the forum - it has never failed. However, I use it in a slightly different manner to your description: With the cursor in the 'username' position on the forum lo...
