Re: "Laptop too powerful for linux"

...... they should tell you whatever they have to to make the sale. They're being paid by the shop, not the customer. To survive long term and even expand, the shop owner needs to establish some trust, and he can't do that by establishing an environment where his customer facing staff are required ...

Re: Reasons against Timeshift for backing up home directory

I consider my computers to have Operating Systems and 'treasured stuff' as catweazel called it. Both need backups. As a newbie I have wrecked my Linux Mint OS many times - I don't suppose that I've done it for the last time yet, so OS backups are great - Timeshift does this for me daily. My Mint 19....

Re: Reasons against Timeshift for backing up home directory

Here's the thing--users should have a seperate backup strategy in place for ~/home (even if just copy/paste to a location out of the computer). Timeshift can do this but it is resource intensive, depending on how you have snapshot intervals configured. I don't need a system snapshot everyday, but I...

Re: [SOLVED] Is this safe to download ?

Yep, as mentioned above, it adds its own repository, and after that you can of course see it in Software Manager (just like software from other third-party repositories and PPAs that you add). But if you were to check on a fresh install you'd find that Software Manager comes up empty if you search ...

Re: [SOLVED] Is this safe to download ?

Why not go to Software Manager and install it from there? Much easier. Opera is closed-source software and not in the official repositories, so that would be difficult. ;) Perhaps I installed it from a .deb - can't remember :( My post was based on the fact that it now appears in my Software Manager...

Opera is currently my browser of choice.

Re: Ubuntu Devs Testing Chromium Browser Transition From Deb To Snap Package - How will this affect Mint?

I have very limited experience of Flatpaks & no experience at all of Snaps - I just see them as a method of bringing their own dependencies to the party without upsetting the host. When Flatpak delivered a faulty update to KeePassXC 2.4.0, I resolved the issue (with the help of the lead developer of...

Re: Linux Mint logo suggestion

Well, that's dashed my hopes :(
I think my panel is default size (height=40) and it looks good if you crop the unnecessary surrounding bits - it's the same size as the other icons.
(haven't tried it with your inverse version, though.)

I think it was gm10 who posted this one some while ago. It's by Troken and I've been using it ever since in the hope that Clem sees it.

Re: Mint 19.1 and PrivateInternetAccess

I'm using PIA 1.1.1 (build 02545) on Mint 19.1 without problems. Same on Windows 10.
Do you also have problems with PIA when connected via ethernet?
Any wireless problems when not using PIA?

Re: Terminal Commands Reference

I have something similar, and I find that TreeLine is well suited for the task because similar commands can be grouped, and the information is entered into user-defined fields. http://treeline.bellz.org/index.html @BenTrabetere - Saw your recommendation & have just tried TreeLine. It's excellent - ...

Re: KeepassXC problem

@cliffcoggin
KeePassX hasn't been updated since October 2016.
You just need to avoid the Flatpak version of KeePassXC 2.4.0 - everything else works.
(and I doubt you'll see the lead developer of KeePassX on this forum if you have problems :) )

Re: KeepassXC problem

Hi droidmonkey,
Thanks for your information regarding this Flatpak problem .
I have just used your AppImage for KeepassXC 2.4.0 and it works perfectly on my Mint 19.1 Cinnamon.
(it's the first time I've used an AppImage and I like it's ease of use)

Re: KeepassXC problem

I've also just hit this problem with KeepassXC 2.4.0
In my case it *was* updated by Flatpak
I've fixed it by removing 2.4.0 and replacing it with 2.3.4 from https://launchpad.net/~phoerious/+archi ... /+packages
Everything now works as before.

Re: How to share my Firefox profile in Windows with LM 19.1?

@timshel I use grub to dual boot mint 19.1 and win10 from separate disks, and I can only speak for Thunderbird profiles (but can't see why this won't work for Firefox as well). Instead of sharing the profile I opted for copying the profile when I swapped operating systems. This gave me a backup inst...

Re: Is there a web design software for Mint 18?

Hmmm, thought I'd have a look at brackets... Screenshot from 2019-02-13 13-17-53.png I don't think so, I'll stick with visual studio code and bluefish. You're right of course - I'd forgotten about this installation problem. But it can be solved easily, see https://github.com/adobe/brackets/issues/1...

I use Brackets made by Adode, it's free and there's lots of add-ons for it.
+1 for Brackets. It's cross platform and I prefer it to anything else I've tried.
