I noticed it had 2gb swap showing but only 237mb used. So not much.

Re: Partitioning existing SSD install

@LanceM. I have 8gb RAM. The only reason I was considering creating a \home was that I was going to install a dual-boot on a Dell XPS 13 that is a little more current but it seems that is problematic. I can't enable legacy and when trying to turn to ACHI it seems I'd need to reinstall Windows. Not a...

Partitioning existing SSD install

I have an ASUS notebook with Mint 19.1 Cinnamon on 256gb SSD and 8gb RAM. When I installed I didn't create any special partitions so I have sda1 EFI 537mb FAT32 and a 256gb sda2 Ext4 File System. No swap or Home partitions. I'm newbie so don't know how that happened and my computer has been fine but...

Re: Cant create launcher for Notepad++

Apparently Notepad++ also has slack built in too which is why I don't need Wine.

I'll look into it but have never heard of it. I use Notepad++ a lot on my Windows computer.

Cant create launcher for Notepad++

I was going to install Windows app Notepad++ when I discovered that double clicking on the Windows notepad++.exe opens the app without Wine. I subsequently found out Notepad++ doesn't require Wine although it's a Windows app. I created a folder in my Home and wanted to add the app to my menu and des...

Re: What do these errors mean?

I did see a small improvement with kernel 38. Grub menu doens't show so I wondered if although it is shown as hidden the timeout still comes in to play so I changed from 10 to 0 to test. One boot shows a 6 second speed increase although I don't know if that's the reason. inxi -Fxz: System: Host: lar...

Re: Slow Mint 19 boot and reporting discrepancies

Thank you.

I don't use grub menu. When I've needed it I've had to manually load it at startup, which is fine.

What do these errors mean?

In order to determine why Mint 19 is taking 26 secs to get to login screen I ran dmesg in Terminal and noticed several red lined entries. Not being too familiar with Linux I'm hoping someone can tell me what these mean and if they are reporting why a slow boot. I've done a Google search but can't ma...

Re: Slow Mint 19 boot and reporting discrepancies

I ran dmesg and there are number of lines in red which I assume is a bad thing. Below are some from near the beginning of the output but I don't know what they mean ACPI Error: [_UPC] Namespace lookup failure, AE_ALREADY_EXISTS (20170831/dswload-378) [ 0.000000] ACPI Exception: AE_ALREADY_EXISTS, Du...

Slow Mint 19 boot and reporting discrepancies

When I boot LInux reporting says it takes 10 secs and but actual stopwatch says 26 secs. Why the difference? And what can be done about it? systemd-analyze blame reports 3.175s NetworkManager.service 3.018s networkd-dispatcher.service 2.993s ubuntu-system-adjustments.service 2.140s udisks2.service 8...

[SOLVED] Edit Menu?

Is it possible to rearrange or hide menu items in Cinnamon 19? Ideally I'd like to create sub-folders but if I can hide some items. Mainly these are under Wine and a couple programs installed links(?) I'd like to hide to clean up the menu.

Strange login message

I did a clean install of Mint Cinnamon 19.1 and had checked to auto login during the installation process. I later decided to require my password to login and so edited lightdm.conf by putting # in front of each line. Now I do have the enter password screen for login. However before the regular logi...

Re: Clean install Mint 19 Cinnamon boot question/problem

I don't have apt-daily-service showing in my list. Maybe the update app? I've disabled that one right now to see if what might be causing slow boots.

Re: Clean install Mint 19 Cinnamon boot question/problem

My stopwatch was on my phone. in Terminal systemd-analyze gives a start up time systemd-analyze blame give a detail listing of the time for each process to load I reinstalled after I realized I'd attempted to install Wine and wondered if that had caused the delays. Unfortunately, no. The new install...

Clean install Mint 19 Cinnamon boot question/problem

I've done a clean install of Mint 19 Cinnamon on notebook with 256 SSD, 8 gb ram. Kernel is 4.15.0.36-generic and all updates are applied. Everything works ok so far except below and a minor issue I had with 18.3 has been fixed. My issue is the slow boot. When I time it from power on to waiting for ...

Re: ASUS Zenbook UX330UA?

So far I love the 13" Asus Zenbook I bought. I installed Mint 18.1 to the drive, overwriting the Windows installation. The Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, video, sound, and all the important stuff worked "out of the box". The only major issue I had was that when I shut down the power light didn't go out and I had...
