Re: Installing Mint on a Chromebook?

Well ChromeOS is officially the worst operating system I have ever seen in my life, worse even than Windows 8 and 10. It has almost no programs and no way to install any. Whoever made this sorry thing should be publicly flogged and banned from touching a computer for the rest of their lives.

Re: Installing Mint on a Chromebook?

Pretty sure it's Intel, since there's a sticker on it that says so. I'm not sure how to check since there's no terminal emulator and I'm not sure if it's actually shutting down completely when it does so - there's no boot screen where you can poke around. edit I tried logging into a gmail account an...

Installing Mint on a Chromebook?

Doesn't appear that there's a terminal emulator. How does one install or run a program on a chromebook? I need to sha256sum the Mint image and burn it to a flash drive.

Re: What's a good Linux distro suitable for rooted Android products?

You're right, I found the half-remembered post I was looking for on 7chan's Thrifty Living stickied thread. The author described rooting old Android devices and installing AOSP compiled with SEAndroid, then selling them on Craigslist instead of getting a real job. It's a shame there isn't a good Lin...

Re: How would you make a language that does system programming better than C?

Haven't read the papers you link to at this point but the question that is the topic I am inclined to answer with "perhaps not unlike https://www.rust-lang.org/en-US/ ". Certainly I feel that that a newer systems programming language needs newer and more ingrained parallelism support as perhaps the...

How would you make a language that does system programming better than C?

I recently read this paper (PDF warning) which is a response to this paper (again, PDF warning) and various criticisms of C. After reading both of them, I found myself with a lot of questions. 1. What would a language that does C's job better than C look like? 2. How can you make a language more com...

What's a good Linux distro suitable for rooted Android products?

I want to root my phone but I'm not sure what exactly would replace the operating system. What software and drivers are needed to send and receive texts and calls? What role does my service provider play in this, if any? If I root my phone can my service provider still identify my phone such that I ...

How do I switch tabs in Caja?

Also how do I switch from the navigation pane on the left to the current folder?

And is it possible to change the Mate open file dialog to always start in my home folder or the last opened folder and not with a list of recent documents?

Re: Add-on to specify user agent for only one site?

I should explain that my facebook accounts are disabled quickly because during the last election I spent a lot of time forcefully debating people. I assume that my identity as a user of Linux Mint on a 64-bit architecture running Pale Moon with a specific list of add-ons gives me away very fast. I n...

Add-on to specify user agent for only one site?

Every time I make a facebook account it is disabled within a few days. I need to contact people via facebook who have no other means of contact. 1. Is there an add-on which allows me to specify the exact user agent for specific sites? 2. Is there an add-on to block facebook widgets on other sites so...

How do I mess with someone on my wireless network?

My brother-in-law lives in our garage and I can't kick him out (yet). He refuses to contribute anything to the household. All he does is sit in the garage and play games on the internet. What can I do to ban his devices from our wireless network, throttle his connection, make his connection less rel...

Caja sound preview won't quit

LMDE2, Mate, 64-bit.
Caja 1.18.3

I usually disable sound preview, but I didn't this time. I moused over a music file, causing the preview to start. It's been looping ever since.

I said I use laptops, not tablets. This is a touchpad:
