Re: Post installation triggers of the updates of desktop-file-utils,shared-mime-info,mintbackup block

I was able to solve the problem: by checking the scripts /var/lib/dpkg/info/desktop-file-utils.postinst /var/lib/dpkg/info/mintbackup.postinst I discover they executed "update-desktop-database", and by running this command it blocked. by executing "update-desktop-database -v" I detected the blocking...

Re: Post installation triggers of the updates of desktop-file-utils,shared-mime-info,mintbackup block

[updated] I was able to install Kernel: 4.15.0-39-generic, after the 'apt install linux-generic', a reboot and a couple of 'dpkg --configure -a' and ^C but now I'm still stuck with desktop-file-utils and mintbackup that keep blocking the 'dpkg --configure -a' I need to be able to rollback the instal...

Re: Post installation triggers of the updates of desktop-file-utils,shared-mime-info,mintbackup block

Since I have using ukuu for a long time, and all the googling out there it seems either to install kernel mainline or Ubuntu mainline. How to downgrade back to Ubuntu kernel (non-mainline), since the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds also points to mainline kernels? Tips are welcome sinc...

Re: Post installation triggers of the updates of desktop-file-utils,shared-mime-info,mintbackup block

Since I'm a long time software developer, in other developer areas, the most advisable action is install the latest stable software version to prevent security issues. And, yes, since v4.19 that the file-system gets corrupted often. I will proceed to downgrade to v4.18.20 since before upgraded to 4...

Re: Post installation triggers of the updates of desktop-file-utils,shared-mime-info,mintbackup block

It's hard to trace back the reason, but at some point in time long time ago, the kernel shipped with Linux Mint didn't had a certain feature or security patch, again it was long time ago, ever since I use ukuu to ensure I have the latest kernel. Since I'm a long time software developer, in other dev...

[solved] Post installation triggers of the updates of desktop-file-utils,shared-mime-info,mintbackup block

Hi, I have been using linux mint for a long time, and today, 2018-11-29, I did a update as usual, and I run into a problem with post-installation-triggers of: - desktop-file-utils (0.23+linuxmint3) - mintbackup (2.3.5) - shared-mime-info (1.9-2) It blocks, right on the desktop-file-utils, so after k...

Recently, I'm also receiving this message, and failure to boot, and I have been using MInt for years without problems. In my case, it fails to boot, but the OS it provides a basic shell to run commands. fsck isn't listed on the list of available commands, however it's available as a command. I run `...

[Solved] How to configure nemo to search also subfolders starting with dot

Hi,
If I have a subfolder named 'sub' and another named '.subdot',
nemo (3.8.6) search files tool will find files inside of 'sub' but not '.subdot'.
Is there a way to configure nemo to also search inside subfolders that start with '.' ?
Thank you

Re: [solved] Apache+PHP7.2+Gettext doesn't work on Linux Mint

After many attempts, I discovered that on my linux mint, it works if I add '.utf8' at the end of the language.
ex: $language = 'en_US.utf8';

On my linux webhosting provider and on XAMPP running on Windows this isn't required.

[solved] Apache+PHP7.2+Gettext doesn't work on Linux Mint

Hi, If I execute this simple example with Apache+PHP+Gettext: https://github.com/nota-ja/php-gettext-example Which basically just do this: <?php // I18N support information here $language = 'en_US'; putenv('LANG=' . $language); setlocale(LC_ALL, $language); // Set the text domain as 'messages' $doma...

Re: Linux mitn 19 Max sound

Linux Mint 19 by default supports volume up to 150%.

In order to provide help, please, provide more details including exactly what you pretend,
and you sound settings, and sound information using

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
Because the solution depends of what exactly what you want.

Re: Can't have steam and brackets installed

Hi,
If you install brackets from https://flathub.org/home, you will have brackets running in an isolated environment.
You will need flatpak, which is already included on Mint 19.

Re: Video Editor

If you are going to use kdenlive, and prefer to have the latest versions, my advice to install it from flathub: https://flathub.org.
if you use PPA the updates come much later, or if you use appimage, you won't have the easiness of the updates.

Hi,
Assuming that you are running with IBus, go to Mint menu and type 'IBus preferences'.
You will see a tab named: 'Emoji' where you can change the shortcut.

Re: [Solved] Problems created after upgrading from 18.3 to 19

Given the shear size of all I have installed and configured, clean install is not an option, I have always to do an upgrade, I use TimeShift to backup only the system files, since a full backup wouldn't be practical, I use other backup methods to backup other data, but it would take me days to recon...

Re: Problems created after upgrading from 18.3 to 19

I was able to solve the theme issue in Nemo: The problem was that the upgrade deleted the theme 'Mint-Y-Yltra-Dark' and kept my custom copy which isn't compatible with Mint 19. By reinstalling the theme again, and replying the themes settings again, it solved the problem. And the new version of 'Min...

[Solved] Problems created after upgrading from 18.3 to 19

Previously, I was running Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon without any problems, all smoothly, and after upgrading to Mint 19, it stop working: cinnamon-settings dialogs, autokey and the icons on nemo disappeared . Since there are multiple problems, I tried to separate one by one, trace the source of each o...
