File copy/move speeds to and from server

Is there any reason why copying files to or from the server takes twice as long (47MB/sec) from a Linux Mint (LMDE 3, 18.3 Cinnamon, 19.1 Cinnamon) machine than a Windows 7 computer (80 – 100MB/sec)? The main computer is a dual boot LMDE 3/Windows 7. On the LMDE side I also have a Window 7 vm. Trans...

Re: Getting rid of arrows on shortcut links on desktop

This, and all your other custom Nemo actions, are GREAT. I'm grateful there are people in the Linux Community that work very hard ... so I don't have to.

Re: Theme doesn't change Radiotray's "look"

I was just about to do that (recent rebuild) when I got sidetracked with fine-tuning theme-ing. Now everything is tweaked and I can get back to work.

SOLVED! Re: Theme doesn't change Radiotray's "look"

Well that was simple. Thank you very much. I thought I'd be sifting around in the css file for-freakin'-ever. I had never enabled that setting simply because I had no idea what it meant. And my motto is, "When you don't know what you're doing ... don't do anything."

SOLVED! Theme doesn't change Radiotray's "look"

I’m using LM 18.3 Cinnamon. In 18.1-18.2 the desktop theme changed the look of Radiotray’s pop-up menu from the panel. In 18.3 it does not. The theme I’m using now changes the look of the pop-up menus for the Calendar, Weather, and Sound … but not Radiotray … Is there anything I can do about it? Thi...

or Forward ... Into the Past The most important components of my computer (motherboard & CPU) celebrated their 10th birthday (quietly) on November 5, 2008. Re: Getting rid of arrows on shortcut links on desktop

Excellent movie about how to make folder links to the desktop. But ... you'll note that the shortcut still has the !@#$%&* little arrow on it.

LM 19 Cinnamon can't "see" server on Windows Network

Hi All, I’ve been having lots of problems with LM 19 Cinnamon that I never had with 18 – 18.3. Here’s the most significant of them. Immediately after installing the OS (LM 18 – 18.3), I needed some files from the server. Before LM 19 here’s how the process went: Opened Nemo, clicked on Network, clic...

Re: Getting rid of arrows on shortcut links on desktop (SOLVED)

A poster on FB’s Linux Mint for Beginners showed me how to make a desktop launcher for a folder Open terminal, enter command $ xed ~/Desktop/link.desktop Then paste this data, (7 lines), into xed :- [Desktop Entry] Type=Application Name=(name you want to use for the folder’s link) Comment=(however y...

Re: Getting rid of arrows on shortcut links on desktop

An easier way: To create symlinks in Linux Mint Cinnamon: In the file manager (Nemo) open the View menu > Extra Pane. Open the Desktop folder in one pane, and the source folder in the other pane. Click on the folder or file you want to symlink. Hold down SHIFT-CTRL and drag the folder to the other p...

Re: Getting rid of arrows on shortcut links on desktop

Right click on folder, click on "Make Link" (which then makes a link with a !@$%&* arrow on it), and cut and paste the link onto the desktop.

Nothing is checked. I do see the crummy little arrow though. It's the emblem for "link".

Re: Getting rid of arrows on shortcut links on desktop

Hi - I can change the icon no problem ... but whichever I choose there's a little arrow on it signifying "shortcut" I guess. My issue is getting rid of those arrows.

Getting rid of arrows on shortcut links on desktop

Hi, I dislike the little arrows on the shortcut icons on my LM 19 Cinnamon desktop. I could (and have done previously) renamed all the emblem-symbolic-link.png and emblem-symbolic-link.svg icons to emblem-symbolic-link.png.bak and emblem-symbolic-link.svg.bak respectively. But that’s too much like a...

Re: [solved] After upgrade, sonya lost desktop bg image

I had the same problem on two computers running Mint Cinnamon 18.2. My main computer had no problem with the Blackmate theme Controls. The other two had disappearing wallpaper. On the laptop I updated nemo to 3.4.7 with sudo apt-get nemo. Problem solved. The other computer (for some reason) balked a...

the only ultimate solution is replacement ...

That's no fun. But still ... plugging/unplugging is better than living inside Windows 7.

Hey austin, texas - Again ... problem solved. Yesterday I stole/cannibalized from your themes successfully. I've got wooden backgrounds & borders as well as grafting the windows control buttons from Dans Rainy Day Blues onto Dans Autumn Woods. As soon as my real jobs are finished I'll get back to rea...

Re: 3D-esque window control buttons?

Hi austin, texas - You're that guy?! I was content with mixing/matching theme elements until a week or so ago. With too much time on my hands I wanted to see how to change one element without changing the entire theme. What I was trying to do first was achieve a completely transparent bottom panel an...
