Re: Help Needed - How to diagnose intermittant slow WIFI

Pierre, After a day's testing, I believe that the new linux firmware has improved, but not eliminated the problem with the intermittent WIFI slowdown. It is much better than before with only 1 WIFI slow down event in 10 hours testing. Prior to changing to the new firmware, I would typically have exp...

Re: Help Needed - How to diagnose intermittant slow WIFI

Pierre,

I've downloaded and installed linux-firmware_1.180_all.deb; rebooted, and changed back to the 5 Ghz WIFI to start testing. I'll post an update on Saturday after a few hours testing.

Many thanks,

Re: Help Needed - How to diagnose intermittant slow WIFI

Pierre,

Can you please check the path and file name for that file you want me to download (http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/ ... .1_all.deb) as I'm getting a 404 "file not found" error on that file name in that directory.

Thanks,

Re: Help Needed - How to diagnose intermittant slow WIFI

Ok - Just some additional information .... Item 1: In an earlier post, I said that the only way of clearing the WIFI problem was to re-boot the laptop. Turns out that the above statement is not entirely correct! I just worked out that if, instead of disconnecting and reconnecting the WIFI connection...

FIXED: Help Needed - How to diagnose intermittant slow WIFI

Greetings, I have an ASUS UX430UNR laptop running Linux Mint 19.1 MATE. I've been using Linux Mint as my daily driver since purchasing this laptop in mid 2018. Recently, I started encountering WIFI "slow downs", which occur intermittently some 20 minutes or so (or sometimes hours) after booting or r...

Re: Linux Mint 19, Cinnamon constantly crashes after upgrade

Most reliable way seems to be to do a fresh install instead of an upgrade. Much quicker, and none of the problems associated with the upgrade process. Note; you'll need to have /home on a separate partition if you don't want the fresh install to overwrite your home folder...

Re: Linux Mint 19, Cinnamon constantly crashes after upgrade

FIXED - I think..... [EDIT --- WRONG !! See additional note below. ] The error occurred on the first and subsequent reboots after upgrading from 18.3. When I went into update manager, there was a Kernel version update waiting (4.15.0-23.25). Once that Kernel Update was installed, the Cinnamon error ...

Add me to this issue as well. Just upgraded from 18.3 to 19, and the error occurs after boot.

Re: ZenBook UX430 TLP Frequency Scaling Bug?

This issue effects me as well. I'm using an ASUS UX430U, and scaling seems to not be working, with all CPUs stuck at 2000 regardless of whether machine is on mains or battery, and regardless of workload imposed on the computer. Result on battery is poor battery life. Result when powered from mains a...

Re: How to Configure The File Browsers in User Applications So That All Hidden Files Are Not Shown

You can press Ctrl+H to toggle showing hidden files in the file chooser dialog. The choice affects all applications that use the Gtk file chooser dialog and is stored persistently. If you have a user that toggles such things accidentally you could for example add this command to their startup appli...

How to Configure The File Browsers in User Applications So That All Hidden Files Are Not Shown

Hi, I'm training a new User in their conversion from Windows to Linux. They are using Linux Mint 18.1 Serena Cinnamon. When using the Nemo File Browser, I can set hidden files to not be displayed, and all works as expected. However, when using applications such as LibreOffice, Gimp, Inkscape, and ma...

Touchpad Tap to Click Still Works After Being Turned OFF in Touchpad Settings

Linux Mint 18.1 -- Cinnamon 64-bit I use a Logitech K400R Keyboard with this computer. The K400R has an inbuilt Touchpad which is recognised and works OK with Mint. But, the touchpad is very sensitive, and responds to even light touch thinking that a "click" is required, resulting in unwanted click ...

Re: Intel Wireless AC-3165 Does Not Connect AC

If you go in the driver manager (you can find it in the menu), does it offer to install a proprietary version of the wifi driver? No, I tried that yesterday. It provided microcode for the CPU, but no additional drivers for the WIFI. I also tried loading the Intel Firmware Blob from this Intel web s...

Intel Wireless AC-3165 Does Not Connect AC

I have recently installed Linux Mint 18.1 Cinnamon (64 Bit) on an Intel NUC (NUC5PPYH). The Wireless chipset in the NUC is the Intel AC-3165. The WIFI was configured during install of Mint, and the WIFI works. BUT, the AC-3165 only connects at 802.11N speeds. So far I have been unable to get this WI...
